Also, regarding LTIR and cap relief, per Capgeek:

"Just because a player is on LTIR does not automatically grant the team extra cap space. In the event a player is placed on LTIR, his cap hit still counts toward the team's overall cap payroll. Relief only comes if replacing the player's salary pushes the team's cap payroll to date over the cap. The amount of relief is limited to the amount the team has gone over the cap (less the amount of payroll room the team had at the time the LTIR transaction took place), not the entire amount of the injured player's salary. "

So just by putting Pronger on LTIR, it doesn't magically free up $5M of cap space.

It does because they don't care how much they spend. They will be over, and Pronger's LTIR will provide relief so they are *not* over.

Sounds like Tenderloin has already moved on:

Je veux faire partie d'une équipe qui me fera confiance.

I think they package Smith + this 1st rounder + one of Ceci/Puempel for a winger.

Zibanejad is a guy I wouldn't move unless I was getting back a huge winger - like a 35-40 goal guy who's young - Eriksson perhaps. Otherwise no chance, what we have with Zibanejad and Silfverberg and now Pageau as well is skill and heart, no reason in the world to move any of them IMO.

Smith on the other hand...if Chicago still wants him, they might be open to a Hjarlmasson trade after all and I'd do that in a heartbeat. I was highly disappointed in Smith this season. He had a chance to really step up and instead of at least being overly physical, he was a wallflower most of the year.

We'll see....interesting off-season coming. Briere + Gonchar/replacement is A-OK with me. Despite what people say about Dupuis, I'd like him if we fail at Briere. We've all watched him play, he's defensively sound + he's slowly learned to finish chances.

Jeez.

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out...

Unless he was referring to a return to the Sens? Wink

I know, I know. The way he played he should not be asking for a team to trust him. More than the backchecking though, he was initially sat down because White (I think) used him as his own personal punching bag and there was zero push back from Gui. You don't have to retaliate, because that would surely get you a penalty, but at least turn around and push the guy away.

I think it was a not-too-subtle indication that he did not appreciate being taken out of the lineup. Well, I guess he can fight for himself after all, even if only through the media.

As if a guy with concussion problems is going to get into a scrap. That supposed genius "Mac" is a pinhead for scratching him because of that. Beer

Tough call, I'd like to keep both but its not economical unless Zbad switches to the wing.

No way you can hold that against him at this point but they probably do have too many of the Swedes who play that skilled, fast skating, hard working game at this point. They have nothing on the wings at this point and Pageau has stolen 2 jobs, O'Brien's and Zibanejad's.... maybe even Regin.

Zibanejad is easily the piece you look at and say "what can we afford to give up? where are we deep? who has high value?". It all comes back to Zibanejad.

That said, there is no way you trade him for ANYTHING LESS than a Bobby Ryan or Louie Eriksson. Simple as that. If you can't land one of those guys then you do you best to turn him into a winger.

Pageau didn't steal Zibanejad's spot at all. Pageau played all playoffs on the 4th line and saw his icetime reduce against Pittsburgh in the latter games. Both he and Zibanejad had similar TOI throughout the playoffs.

I'm not touching either of these two in trades if I'm Murray and I'd look to deal Silfverberg over either of them. He'd have less value than Zib though and he is a winger which we need more of, like you said. If I'm BMurr I'd actually just try to dangle role players, picks, and Bingo/CHL prospects, but that's tough obviously.

I think their longterm centres are Spezza/Turris/Zib/Pageau, and Smith is on the outisde looking in.

I know for a fact he doesn't want to play in his home town, would be too hard to actually play the game.

well good thing Ottawa isn't his hometown then Sarcasm

Meh, w/e, let him find that team... Ottawa is better off giving that ice time to Stone, Prince, Hoffman, and whoever else.

Gotta give to get and going for a guy like Ryder isn't going to help the Sens long term needs. Pageau is a better center than Zibanejad though, knows how to play the position on a higher level while Zibanejad probably has a little more pure talent. Unless they feel Zibanejad can play the wing he could be the guy going the other way for a big time player. Smith... need guys that are willing to do the dirty work and can chip in here and there, I don't think he is going anywhere either.

Like you said, on the wings the Sens are thin as it is and Silfverberg is a guy that is only going to get better like Zibanejad but with less value. I think it's pretty obvious the guy that would get traded if a Ryan type player is coming back but that's just me.
