Michallica wrote:Yup agreed. It was disappointing to not see that dirty phyiscal style I was expecting from Zbad. Then again, it was his first season outside of the SEL and he's battled some concussion issues so it takes him a little longer to use that body of his. Tough call, I'd like to keep both but its not economical unless Zbad switches to the wing.

No way you can hold that against him at this point but they probably do have too many of the Swedes who play that skilled, fast skating, hard working game at this point. They have nothing on the wings at this point and Pageau has stolen 2 jobs, O'Brien's and Zibanejad's.... maybe even Regin.

Zibanejad is easily the piece you look at and say "what can we afford to give up? where are we deep? who has high value?". It all comes back to Zibanejad.

That said, there is no way you trade him for ANYTHING LESS than a Bobby Ryan or Louie Eriksson. Simple as that. If you can't land one of those guys then you do you best to turn him into a winger.

Pageau didn't steal Zibanejad's spot at all. Pageau played all playoffs on the 4th line and saw his icetime reduce against Pittsburgh in the latter games. Both he and Zibanejad had similar TOI throughout the playoffs.

I'm not touching either of these two in trades if I'm Murray and I'd look to deal Silfverberg over either of them. He'd have less value than Zib though and he is a winger which we need more of, like you said. If I'm BMurr I'd actually just try to dangle role players, picks, and Bingo/CHL prospects, but that's tough obviously.

I think their longterm centres are Spezza/Turris/Zib/Pageau, and Smith is on the outisde looking in.

Gotta give to get and going for a guy like Ryder isn't going to help the Sens long term needs. Pageau is a better center than Zibanejad though, knows how to play the position on a higher level while Zibanejad probably has a little more pure talent. Unless they feel Zibanejad can play the wing he could be the guy going the other way for a big time player. Smith... need guys that are willing to do the dirty work and can chip in here and there, I don't think he is going anywhere either.

Like you said, on the wings the Sens are thin as it is and Silfverberg is a guy that is only going to get better like Zibanejad but with less value. I think it's pretty obvious the guy that would get traded if a Ryan type player is coming back but that's just me.

OFFER SHEET THAT BIOTCH!!!! Ahhhhh!

I know for a fact he doesn't want to play in his home town, would be too hard to actually play the game.

well good thing Ottawa isn't his hometown then Sarcasm

He has been here since he was 10... it's his home town.

Grant Clitsome will probably want to sign here if Ottawa wants him. Methot's good friend.

We need a scoring winger, though.

He's a d-man.

I like to refer to Grant Clitsome as "Ol' Clitty"...I would get a jersey with that on it if he signed here.

Exactly. Greatest need is to score. With the goaltending we have we can afford to wait for the likes of Gryba, Wiercioch, Cowen, Ceci to develop.

you can never have too many d-men. With Benoit and Lundin and Gonchar gone, I would sign Clitsome as a depth d-man. He had 16 points this year, not too bad. He was pretty good when I watched him. We need scoring, but we are a team who will score with the help of the backend.

I think Ryan's getting riskier by the minute. With only 2 years left on his package and UFA coming calling, I don't think he's the guy anymore. I mean, he is, but not with only 2 years left - that's not worth giving up Zibanejad. Pending free agents are very, very risky. You literally have no idea which way they'll go - and you might have to trade them 1 year from now if you can't get your answers. Not what we want IMO.

Pageau being a better C than Zibanejad is highly debatable, although I'd agree that they appear to have found a beautiful Briere clone who can play C. Zibanejad went through the normal up and downs this season, but I wouldn't trade him personally. Not with seeing how amazing he and Silf can be together, I want to see what they can do through a full year.

Zibanejad will be used at wing as soon as next year. He needs to learn the ropes of the position, but his natural talent will make him quite good at it IMO.

My hopes is that Murray can package Smith with Puempel and the 1st and perhaps one more piece to land a winger who can put the puck in the net, but it's not gonna be easy.

I don't think we can wait if Gonchar leaves. I think that leaves us with too little experience on the back end and I think that would cost us very heavily. Not that Clit is the guy to replace Gonchar, but I like the idea of him taking Lundin's role if he'd take that.

Lundin had a role?

As it was, he was the 7th D-man for a while until he got beaten out by Benoit (who I guess could be that guy).

My understanding is that young Philly would be that guy? I guess we'll know by mid-July which is when Ottawa typically signs the leftovers from free agency at rock-bottom prices.

I think they will keep Benoit, he was pretty good this year.

Phillips? No, he'll be a 5th D-man, 3rd pairing guy who can move up into the top 4 if need be.
