Mendes: MacLean says the club would prefer for Spezza to stay behind and work out with Luke Richardson and the other extra players.

There's no way he was going to be ready for Game 1.

Interesting that they won't rule him out for game 2(friday ?).

If he's not in game 1 and not even traveling to Pittsburgh, I seriously doubt they'd put him in for G2. Even wit the extra day off in-between. He'll need another practice or two with the team. Home ice gives them the ability to match him up against their 3rd/4th lines. Build his icetime up gradually, give him PP time.
