If you are the Sens what do you offer? Obviously the 1st rounder is a no brianer.

Signed Perry? Probably Michalek + Zibanejad + 1st maximum and not team in the league can beat that

That's what I was going to say but I think his knee injury will scare Anaheim (or anyone) off.

They might want Wiercioch to try and make up for losing Schultz/Gardiner as well.

You really think a 41-year-old Alfie is a second liner? And I'm still a little concerned about Michalek on the top line -- injury probe and inconsistent when healthy. You can hide that on the 2nd/third line (drop him down when he cools off) but not ob the top line.

Do you mean they will spend next year? Why would getting to round 2 mean spending in the off-season?

Because if we make the 2nd round (and don't go any farther) spending more in the offseason should theoretically improve us to making the 3rd round (in theory).

Melnyk used to spend to the cap and hope we make the playoffs and the 2nd round.

Now he wants to make the 2nd round first, that's what he needs to break even assuming he spends to the cap (or near it).

I would say more along the lines of Michalek/Stone or Weircioch/1st. If you are giving up a top 6 winger then no reason to give up a guy like Zibanejad. That said, it would almost have to be guaranteed Perry resigns.

They'll just flat out tell him these are the teams that are interested. We'll sign you and trade you to one of them.

No one is going to give up much if Perry can just walk on July 1st.

I could see Boston or Pitt giving up a ton because they can probably resign him or convince him to stay for a while if need be. Good thing about Perry being traded is there are only like 8 teams that he could possibly be traded to anyways and 2 of those 8 are NYR and Philly which can't afford him to begin with and wouldn't make sense.

I would say if Perry is indeed traded it is to either Ottawa, Boston, Pitt, Toronto, or maybe with an outside chance Montreal.

I think both Alfredsson and Michalek are nice 2nd line wingers personally. Alfie still plays the game at a really high level, playing him with Turris will command respect from other teams. Michalek would look pretty good playing there with them or I guess on a line with Spezza, moving Silfverberg down with Turris. Any way you slice it, we need a top line winger though. That'll give everyone way more time and space - especially someone like Spezza who can kill other teams if you give him a little bit of ice to work with.

If we do nothing at all, I wouldn't be heartbroken. I think the team needs a top line winger, but the waythis season is going, I'd say we have one of the best coaches out there who can help this team continue to develop and meld together. Give him another weapon up front and you'll see the rewards, but if not he'll most likely make the most of what he has.

That's the right value but if it's a bidding war we will have to overpay.

Murray's been so careful up until now - with the exception I guess of the Nash trade that got vetoed. Is he gonna do it this summer, is a big fish coming?

There has to be. We're mentioned in RoR rumors and we'll be mentioned in Perry rumours (just because BM drafted him). Only question is can we actually pull a move off.

Chances are Ottawa's draft pick isn't going to be the 27th-30th this year... Pitt or Boston will probably both be in that range... there is value in that as well.

Also, if yo go out and get Perry you for sure sign Ryder in the off season as well.

I think that's pretty unlikely that we go after both personally.

Assuming that people are healthy next season - and if they're not, we need to rely on depth as usual, then you have the following locked into a top 6 spot:

1.Alfredsson
2.Spezza
3.Michalek
4.Turris
5.Silfverberg
6.OPEN

then the following are locked into bottom six roles:

1.Neil
2.Greening
3.Z.Smith
4.Condra
5.battle between JOB, Daug, DD, Grant, Hoffman, Stone, Zibanejad, maybe Regin, Da Costa
6.see 5

I'd assume that whoever loses the training camp battles for 5 and 6 in the bottom six become the 13th forward, so really, there's one space open and that should be a top line forward. Getting 2 probably over populates the forward ranks and perhaps even sends the wrong message to the players that have worked so hard to become NHLers.

Now...a top line F and a 2nd pairing right hander...? That I can get on board with.

If you are trading for Perry you can almost bet Michalek is going the other way.

Fair enough, I'd still try to fill that slot from within, but that would change things a bit.
