We will need a top-line center in a few years. I have my doubts about Turris and Zibanejad, and certainly Da Costa. They'd both be fine behind Spezza, but eventually we will need a replacement. Can MacKinnon be "it"? If we sink in the standings and are in the bottom five, do we make a splash at the draft? Could we, even? Or perhaps Lindholm or Monahan (like his size) -- more achievable than a top-2 pick, and who the hell knows, really, if any of them will turn out to be a #1C.

New plan: trade for ROR, draft Jones. Win Cup next year.

I am in the sense that I think Karlsson will eat up too many minutes for Jones to really get in the door as a legit #1 guy but in the same breath you might want to draft him just incase Karlsson isn't the same player when he comes back.

Darren Dreger says that Ottawa is in on ROR and that there may be a multi player deal to be had with the Avs (ROR + a D-man). He said to keep a close eye on it, whatever that means.

He said, too, that Murray had been looking for a top D-Man prior to the Karlsson injury anyway. I don't think it's a matter of if but when he makes a move or moves and it will be interesting to see for sure.

I mean let's NOT make any additional reactionary moves because of the Karlsson injury. The deals that were in the pipeline before this happened... fine, keep them moving along. Such as trying to acquire ROR, I'm sure was part of Murray's plan before this happened, same for any goalie moves that were in the works with our logjam there. But let's not start selling off assets like crazy and go into tank mode...

That's a good point. You know EK is full of confidence and the mental side of the game is perhaps his strongest...so I don't really question his ability to come back and be himself again.

Well the Islanders def need some forwards up front, no question. Ottawa needs a top 4 RH D man that can play in every situation to play behind Karlsson and Hamonic is exactly that.

Islanders have a lot of D men in the cupboard right now and some guys they are high on... maybe they can afford to part with Hamonic but we'll see. I doubt it.

Oh yeah. Don't think the Isles would feel the same way though.

Or Hamonic + Okposo and Ottawa adds a little something, but I don't like Okposo and never will. LOVE Hamonic though, but again...doubt they ever let him go.
