I don't know, as a worker myself I can totally see how demoralizing that can be. But as a hockey fan I see the potential red flags.

two possible scenarios here. they trade him as a rental and get a minimum (high) return from a team or better they get the maximum return with a contract.
Problem is you have to wonder what Perry is thinking. they just adjusted the CBA so they can't mess with contracts the way they used to. he's looking at getting the max anyways. I guess if Anaheim aren't dumb they've already done the leg work as to find ut from him where he'd like to land with a contract so they could possibly work out a deal with a team with an extension added dictated by Perry's camp. seems that would be the smartest move. could explain why his heart isn't in it. certainly doesn't help the Ducks ge max value either.
