I think Benoit is a better player right now and MacLean loves Weircioch... Weircoich also seems to be gaining a ton of confidence. If they go with 8 D then obviously he will stay and that's probably not the worst idea either.

As Spader was saying, I also like the idea of having 8 guys. Usually I hate sitting prospects, but in a short season there'll be a ton of injuries - especially to old men like Gonchar, plus there'll be a fire behind all of their arses knowing there are guys scratched and itching to come back.

That said, I doubt they waste money on guys if they can go down to the AHL and play games and save the organization money. Boro wouldn't be my first choice, but I've grown to really like Wiercioch's game.

Tough call, much tougher than it sounds.

Also...how the heck do you put a guy in that quick? How many practices has he had? Does he know the system? It's a stretch IMO, he could use some time to tune up.

He's a guy that just fits in with Lundin. He's like Borowiecki but a little better at this point with more experience. I don't think they would have signed him if they knew Benoit was going to be this solid.

Do we know when Lundin's slotting in? I can't imagine he'd play against the Canes.

Agree with that... Maybe to Bingo (as someone else mentioned) for a 2 week stint to learn the system. Can't hurt...

But he needs more practice time for sure. Question is where do you slot him? On the 3rd pairing with Phillips to start?

I was about to say "Who's to say Lundin doesn't bring some grit, too?" then I looked at his stats. He's no Marc Methot.

He blocks a lot of shots. I'm sure that's a big reason why he was brought in. It doesn't seem like he throws many hits, but the blocks will be welcome.

Someone asked Cory Pronman if Lehner is the best goalie prospect.

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman wrote:

Are you %^^&(@# kidding me? He's comparing what Lehner has done in the AHL/NHL to what Vasilevski is doing in the KHL? Jeff Glass has the 4th best SV% in the KHL right now! Jeff Freakin' Glass! I know Lehner has a few years on him so what he is doing is impressive, but he's a few years away from being really tested. There's no way you could put him on the same level with any prospects actually paying -- and playing at an elite level -- in the top leagues here.

For the record, Vasilevski is 3-1 with a .918 SV% and 2.27 GAA.

Don't look at stats, look at skill. Vasilevski is a really good. Not defending Corey Poonman though, he's a Richard.

your argument is a bit weak because you could say "look at (insert career AHL goalie with great stats here) has the ___ best ___ in the AHL right now!"

That's actually a really good point. They may not have signed him if they had realized what they had in Benoit. Mind you, depth is an excellent thing and a strong motivator.

He plays the right side I think, so yeah, probably 3rd pairing with Phillips or Wiercioch.

Yeah, I don't see Vasilevski on the same level as Lehner yet. A little premature to say the least.

The only thing I've got to go with this guy is stats. Sorry, but I'm not going to compare a professional player with a resume including the Calder Cup MVP, a few NHL games under his belt with a shutout of the defending Champs and currently the best SV% in the next best league to the NHL, to this guy's junior career, and put them on the same level. In the pros (KHL) he's done alright, but nothing earth shattering. When Jeff Glass can be in the top-five in SV% you know the calibre of the shots is not very high.

Has he got potential? Of course, he says. I'm just saying that, based on what we have seen so far (and this guy Pronman hasn't been over to Russia, so he hasn't seen any more than we have) I can't put them in the same category, let alone same level.
