In my mind Regin is capable of doing that and if now yeah Dacosta. we have enough depth to ride this out IMO. besides I'm sticking to rebuilding this team and unless it's a long term solution I don't want a patch job.

He's on Dobber Hockey acting like he broke the Spezza injury
I thought they might be resting him. the habs are young and supposedly fast. I thought they'd put more of our youth out there to match them.NEELY wrote:Flo The Action wrote:it's gonna hurt I don't think anybody doubts that but like neely says it almost puts on us at the level as many other teams. no one apart from Boston has really a #1 center. and even then sometimes I think Boston has two great #2 centers. depending what zib does, i'm not sure i'd expect him to slide into that 2c role but it's worth the try. Also assuming that no other team has a major injury lol... which won't happen. Oh, they didn't have Gonchar last night either.
Didn't you know. BooBoo broke it! Or so says The REAL Kypreos...Ev wrote:SpezDispenser wrote:Lol why do you say?

Faceoffs are probably where they will miss Spezza the most, I agree with that. Almost need a defensive specialist. Perhaps going out and getting a kid like ROR from Colorado is an option but they would need to pay through the roof for him.
I honestly don't think this news is the end of the world like a lot of other people do. Sens are a very complete team with great goaltending.

Maybe but right now Turris, Zibanejad both are a PPG without Spezza in the lineup (don't think they keep that up obviously), Regin and Smith are both dependable players that don't make a lot of mistakes. IMO this is going to be great for the Sens if you take a long term approach to it and even in the short term they can probably do the job. Da Costa might be an option down the road if they are struggling with offense but 8 goals in their last 2 games without Spezza is saying it's not.
Gonna have to let things play out of a couple weeks to see where they are at.
NEELY wrote:I can't believe people are jumping off a cliff about this. Yah, Spezza is a big piece of the Sens but he isn't the one making the team go anymore and I don't think he ever has. Spezza is and always will be a compliment to however the system and team is built.
Everything in Ottawa revolves around puck control and quick transition, Spezza while a important part of that doesn't control the offense, Karlsson does and it's pretty clear now. Spezza doesn't break the puck out, Spezza doesn't make the saves, and Spezza doesn't block the shots, it's done by comity. Spezza is a game breaker or at least can be, he's the guy that can burry a team with one shot or pass, but he's not the guy who controls the game.
Big loss, not the end of the world. Sens will be fine.

Spezza wins faceoffs against the best the other teams offer... that leads to puck possession.
I remember the year that he was out with the shoulder separation courtesy of Kris Letang.. gee seems like the Pens have it in for Spezza... The Sens went through the next 6 weeks or so with a record of 1 win and 17 losses. Now that was under Clouston and much less in goal...
Don't overlook his importance. It is estimated he will miss 22-24 games. That's a lot Is Turris ready for the #1 centre position? He had better be.. as there is no other option on the Sens right now. I would prefer Smith at #2 and Regin at #3.. Leave the 4th line of Condra-JOB-Zibby alone. They have good chemistry and had 2 goals last night... Need to come up with a nickname for that line...
NEELY wrote:I hate that argument "they wouldn't have done this", not just in this case but another. "If Crosby was playing they would have", "if Anderson wasn't playing they wouldn't have", etc, etc, etc.
It doesn't matter what might have happened, it didn't.
