Yeah he finished Top 5 in scoring last year. Still think they make the playoffs, but losing Spezza hurts.

Well until the Sens lose a game without him and lose big or a few in a row, I'm not worried. 2-0 so far without Spezza in the lineup and aside from the one year when the entire thing went off the rails with Clouston they have always done well without Spezza.

So... lines without Spezza?

Michalek - Turris - Silfverberg
TheTenderOne - Zib - The Alfie
Greening - Z. Smith - Neil
JOB - Regin - Condra

I can see a Da Costa call up if things go south...

If the PP struggles Da Costa will be called up and work the half wall like Spezza does, he's a right handed shot so he should be able to fill that void.

I look at that lineup and knowing how the team plays there might be one or two teams I would put ahead of the Sens still. Pitt, Boston, I struggle after that. Ottawa is a really good team with Spezza, they are a good team without him.

I take the Sens lineup over 3 of the other 4 teams in the division without thinking twice even without Spezza and that's where the majority of games will be played, in division.

Who does Buffalo have down the middle that is better than Turris right now? Answer is no one. Toronto? No one. Montreal... maybe Plekanic but that can be debated. So Ottawa falls where in relation to the rest of the divison? Boston was always ahead and still is until the Sens can knock them off.

People are making it out to be way worse than it actually is. Fact of the matter is this might be good for the Sens and if and when Spezza does come back everyone else will be wearing down because of the schedule and Spezza will probably hit mid season form come the playoffs.

Exactly. You go through the East, especially the teams near the top for some reason and who are the Sens worse then? Montreal? Laughable. NYI? Maybe 30 years ago. Tampa? Questionable. NJ? Ottawa is on their level. Buffalo? Ottawa beats them with regularity no matter what and even if they didn't the Sens without Spezza are still a better team. Toronto? Philly? Florida? Carolina? Sens are just as good if not better than those teams without Spezza.

NYR, Pitt, Bos, those 3 they could be in trouble if they play them without Spezza. Other than that, Ottawa is still in the top half in the East. Spezza is a loss but a loss that doesn't cripple the team.

At least 2 months for Spez says NHL network

it's gonna hurt I don't think anybody doubts that but like neely says it almost puts on us at the level as many other teams. no one apart from Boston has really a #1 center. and even then sometimes I think Boston has two great #2 centers. depending what zib does, i'm not sure i'd expect him to slide into that 2c role but it's worth the try. In my mind Regin is capable of doing that and if now yeah Dacosta. we have enough depth to ride this out IMO. besides I'm sticking to rebuilding this team and unless it's a long term solution I don't want a patch job.

Also assuming that no other team has a major injury lol... which won't happen. Oh, they didn't have Gonchar last night either.
