I would say Rask is great, but he also has the benefit of playing for a really solid Bruins team (the same advantage Thomas enjoyed). I get your point though, and this is the first year he'll have to carry the baggage as being the starter. We'll see. His numbers so far this year are great.

The refs (ALL OF THEM, INCLUDING THE LINESMEN) had it in for the entire game. They were terrible. Even the linesmen were blowing offside calls and refusing to DROP THE PUCK (channeling my inner Don Cherry) for the faceoff...it was hard to take, but it went both ways at least.

Montreal is a mirage, Markov has 3 GWG and a 40% shooting percentage. That bing said they were tired last night and barely showed up.

It'll be a different game at the Bell Centre.

I want to see how we do against Rangers and Boston.

BooBoo: Senators have called an 11 AM media availability with Bryan Murray to update Jason Spezza. #Sens

This does not bode well...

SensChirp says he's hearing it's long term.

Hopefully it isn't the season but long term at this point would basically be the season. If it's 6-8 weeks then that take them right to the beginning of April which wouldn't be the worst thing, he could find his stride right before the playoffs hit.

Per Kypreos:

"Senators expected 2 announce Jason Spezza will undergo surgical procedure on his back. Club doesn't considered this major surgery I'm told."

Hopefully he's only out a month?

That's a big Cussing piece to lose for "only a month" in a short season. I'm glad we're winning without him but I'm not super-confident that it can be sustained. I hope I'm dead wrong.

If it's not major then he might be back first week of March which wouldn't be the end of the world... still a tough break but the Sens are deep enough they can overcome this.

God bless Murray for going out and getting Turris. Zibanejad has a chance to stick for good too and so far he looks perfect to fill in whatever role they want him too.

I'm guessing "only a month" is absolute best case. Murray called a press conference at 11 this morning to update the situation…so who knows. If we can play .500 hockey without him, then we will still have a realistic shot at making the playoffs, given our hot start. 500 hockey is not unrealistic given our depth and Mr. Anderson in net.

Sens are deep enough down the middle to win over this stretch. The Sens still have a ton of depth and there is no excuse for not winning because Spezza is out. He's important but he's not the MVP of the Sens. He's a solid #1 guy, no question but they didn't lose Karlsson who makes the entire team go.

Grapes giving Matrix some more love via Twitter:

"Sens beat Habs 5-1. Anderson goaltender deluxe. Sensational again. Sens outshot 13-5 in 3rd period & still win. Craig is looking like MVP"

What the heck would we have done if we hadn't acquired Turris?

Rely solely on The Gregger, who many wanted gone before the puck even dropped on the current season.

No one wanted Anderson gone but people were right to question him to start the season... he gave us the answer of "shut the Diddle up, I'm the man".

Sens will be fine without Spezza.

NOT ME! I was steadfast in him getting every opportunity to continue to be our #1. He was great for us last year, and he's even better now. But there was legitimate concern with him not playing for approximately 9 months.

Of course not.

Man, I guess that's the best case if it's "not major" surgery. Hoepfully he's not
out too long and the kids can hold the fort down like they have over the past 2 days. Getting over the flu should also help.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2013/01/31/ottawa_senators_jason_spezza_back_surgery/

I guess we'll find out how long they expect him to be out at 11am.

Unfortunately, this is not a surprise. Spezza has averaged 70.7 games per season over the last 7 years, so him missing about a month per year is expected.

Ah yes, the picking and choosing of thoughts within a complete statement... gotta love your comments at times.
