In Beijing it took us a week to get a medal, we already got 5 in 5 days.

We'll have to wait until the final total but so far we're doing better. We had 10 4th place finishes in Beijing as well so I'd say Canada is a little bit underrated in how competitive we are.

Fractions of a second determine if you get a medal or not in some sports, it's easy to forget just how hard it is to medal and how good these athletes from around the world are.

If we match or exceed the count in Beijing I'd be OK with that.

It's the subjective voting sports though - like gymnastics, diving, etc. It's just a persons opinion, bias or professional judgement that determines winner.

Eight badminton players were disqualified from the Olympics yesterday for match fixing. They represented South Korea (on two separate teams), China, and Indonesia. Disgraceful:

Sort of offtopic but it looks like CBC will be airing the next 2 Olympic games (Sochi and Rio).

They're both very industrious.

Which Kramer do you suppose invented a better jar? The answer may surprise you... Vertigo

So three more medals today, right? A gold (trampoline), bronze (bike pursuit) and now a silver (1500m swim). Brings our total to 10. The US is 10x bigger and have 49.

Outside of the LA Olympics (when the USSR boycotted so the medal counts were out of whack) the best showing for total medals was 22 in Atlanta, and the best for gold was 7 in Barcelona.

So, how many events are left? What are our chances at bettering our previous totals.

Canada's women's basketball team got destroyed in the 1st quarter by Australia (their #14 is 6'8"); they held their own in the 2nd, even had an 8-point run, but they keep making very low-percentage shots, trying to force passes through crowds. Australia is ranked much higher but are actually not playing very well themselves (at least not in the 2nd). Mental mistakes are killing us.

Canada with a 12-2 run in the third quarter, with a free throw could get to within 4 points. Wow!

Canada within 5 after 3. They were within 3 at one point but a missed offensive foul (IMO) followed by a called defensive foul on the same play led to the Aussies getting 2 points back.

Come on, Canada! Just 5 points now!
