That's pretty impressive, I'm surprised they got that up to 11, I thought they were around 16. So let's say we need to continue to trend of being 11 or higher to make the playoffs, with Kuba not coming back and no replacement set up yet, what are we doing here?

It also got better when Turris got here. With Turris here for a full season after a full camp, and Silfverberg as well, we won't have to have Greening or Neil out there on the PP. Don't tell me Kuba did a better job getting the puck on net than Phillips. And in any case you'd want to move Karlsson over on the left and have Gonchar feeding him one-timers. You wouldn't need a second unit Smile

Move Gonchar over to unit 1 and you lose him from unit 2. Or worse, he gets injured - which he's pretty good at and we suffer.

I don't think we can survive without replacing his offense unless they think Cowen's ready and Wiercoich or Phillips can fill in, but that's not at all a great scenario.

I was saying we're fine last summer and here we are. I'm saying we're even better now. We can pick this conversation up again in a few months and see how right I'd been all along Smile

I think we're going to be a really solid team, but I also think we're a team that needs work on the backend to make the playoffs - particularly a guy who can make a contribution on the PP similar to Kuba.

I'm not sure if I would be too concerned about the PP to be honest, throw Alfie of Gonchar in the spot beside Karlsson and we're fine in that area. Who is gonna eat up all of Kuba's 5 vs 5 minutes though? I don't want to put that on any of Phillips, Carkner, Wiercioch, Borowiecki, ect.

Seriously... Sign Suter, Parise for 7m. Karlsson for 1 year at 5m. Pay him more when gonchar and alfie are off the books. Would be a nice line up.

Suter isn't coming to Ottawa. No chance, no how.

As for Nash, it would take a serious offer and one I am not sure anyone in the organization is prepared to make.

Yeah, I was about to ask just what Kuba's contribution on the PP had been. I don't remember him being particularly effective. Kuba was third on the team in D-man PP scoring. Give Phillips the same PP ice time and see what happens. They were producing (if you can call it that) at about the same point-per-PP-minute pace.

As for who takes his 5-on-5 ice time, well that would be Karlsson's partner, of course, whoever that winds up being. Kuba's ice time had a lot more to do with how well he and Karlsson played together than how he played. Long term if we want Karlsson/Cowen to be our top pairing then sooner or later they have to start playing significant minutes together. Might as well start now, when we still have Phillips to take over for a spell if necessary.

Who's this douche?

I was speaking as in it would be great for that situation to happen. Obviously it won't.

Don't mind Neely...he's just crusty. I think that if Ottawa were willing to pony up absurd amounts of money and term, that we could indeed have both Suter and Parise, but it would be crippling to the organization.

So, yes, it won't happen. But the off-season is for dreaming.

Wasn't it young Jason Spezza who said "Dare to dream?"

When you have two very influential entities like Jason Spezza and Disney on the same page, it would be wise to heed their advice.

Let the dreaming begin!

Ottawa's top 6 next season:

Nash / Spezza / Iginla
Michalek / Turris / The Alfie

Now we just have to figure out... "What does it take to get Nash?"
