Not convinced. Don't want Phillips on the PP - maybe a forward, but I've said for a while I think the key to us making the playoffs will be our power play - which sucked last year in all honesty. If we go back next season with the same makeup - but without Kuba on the point - where does that leave us? Potentially in the bottom third of the league in percentages - and a possible playoff miss because of it.

Our PP was ranked #11 in the regular season, I don't see how that 'sucks'. PK was 20th, it's our defense that's awful. Too many brain farts and old, slow defenders trending downwards with no succession plan in place right now and only Borowiecki looking like an NHL D-man from our prospect pool.

That's pretty impressive, I'm surprised they got that up to 11, I thought they were around 16. So let's say we need to continue to trend of being 11 or higher to make the playoffs, with Kuba not coming back and no replacement set up yet, what are we doing here?

Time for young "Philly" to step up and post some numbers. It's about time that he gets his shot.

Getting Nash would fix all that. Puck possession my boy.

Know what this site needs? A simulation league. Thoughts?

If the Sens get Nash you're all going to love him. If they don't, the people here that knocked on him will feel vindicated.

He's going to play on the PP, the PK, and probably put up close to a PPG. Can't really fault him for a lack of post-season NHL experience, and you can judge him on his IIHF and Olympic performances, but some of you might not be convinced.

If the Sens feel they can acquire him without sacrificing what they have built up, then so be it.

I know we'd love him, but there are going to be questions no matter what. The team that gets him will have to give a ton and the question will be there as to whether it'd be worth it or not.

I would be just as much of a Nash fan as a Spezza fan. Cheer him on and skeptical until the end. Not a player I would give that kind of return for but I'm not Murray either.

That's the problem it doesn't seem to be possible with what Howson is asking.

Until any trade happens, can't really say for sure what the cost really is.

I think we thought Heatley was going to get us a lot more than he did.

GM's typically don't like revealing names of players they try to trade, unless of course the player asks for one.

It also got better when Turris got here. With Turris here for a full season after a full camp, and Silfverberg as well, we won't have to have Greening or Neil out there on the PP. Don't tell me Kuba did a better job getting the puck on net than Phillips. And in any case you'd want to move Karlsson over on the left and have Gonchar feeding him one-timers. You wouldn't need a second unit Smile

Well Heatley's 'list' consisted of one team.. San Jose.. Sens were really limited in what they got in return.. At least Nash's list is about 5 teams.. but then again.. if those trades are not possible... would he expand the list?

I mean think about it... why would he go to Toronto to play with Bozak as his centreman.. when he could come to Ottawa and play with Spezza... To me it's a pretty easy choice.

He's from Brampton and a long time Leafs fan ? Smile

And Spezza is from Mississauga. There are Leafs fans everywhere. There are XXX fans everywhere drafted by YYY and then signing with ZZZ. Bozak could have gone to school with him but it doesn't change the fact that Spezza, with an AHLer on his wing, was top-10 in scoring in the league.

Move Gonchar over to unit 1 and you lose him from unit 2. Or worse, he gets injured - which he's pretty good at and we suffer.

I don't think we can survive without replacing his offense unless they think Cowen's ready and Wiercoich or Phillips can fill in, but that's not at all a great scenario.

I was saying we're fine last summer and here we are. I'm saying we're even better now. We can pick this conversation up again in a few months and see how right I'd been all along Smile

I think we're going to be a really solid team, but I also think we're a team that needs work on the backend to make the playoffs - particularly a guy who can make a contribution on the PP similar to Kuba.
