You agree about the bolded part, too?

If Alfie is going to play another year, I'd like to see the Sens go for it all, which includes getting Nash. I don't care about Nash's salary as the Sens will a) not be a cap team even with him and b) it's not my money.

The cost may not be as high as people think as I believe Nash will only accept a trade to a few locations.

Which I doubt includes Ottawa... but for those of you so concerned with our precious 1st pick, Mike Richards went to LA and no 1st rounder was included in that deal.

Like you say, once that deal is done people will say "is that all it cost?" And then they'll say, "yeah but I wasn't willing to give up (insert unproven prospect name here), anyway."

Yes and no.

I do as of the right now - even with two powerful pieces in Karlsson and Cowen. Phillips and Gonchar are two serviceable veterans - in fact, I've liked Phillips' game ever since Mac came onto the scene. I think Gonchar is a shaky piece for us at 39 years old, I feel as if we got lucky with injuries with him last year.

We don't have a bottom pairing yet, although Boroweicki is a start. We have no real depth on D outside of Boroweicki and perhaps Gryba.

I'd say that Karlsson and Cowen make for one of the best young pairings in the league, but we have a lot of holes to fill. A lot...

Wayne Simmonds though...that's a huge piece that Ottawa doesn't have.

I think Borowiecki-Carkner are more than fine as a bottom pairing. You don't expect -- or need -- future HoFers down there. I'm a bit concerned with Cowen-Karlsson as the top pairing, but mainly because those two have not player together yet. That said, at the first signs of trouble you swap Cowen for Phillips and bob's your uncle. I'd trust Phillips on the top pairing if the Human Flash is out there with him. That would also leave Cowen-Gonchar unchanged from last year.

Sure, there are some issues here but far from what I would call "terrible shape".

We haven't even signed Carkner though. So we have these gaping holes all over the defence. I agree, Boroweicki and Jurcina would be a decent 3rd pairing with Carkner as the 7th D-man, but I do find it a little nerve wracking to think that we're losing Kuba and not replacing him - or replacing him with Phillips is more accurate. A good veteran, but is he as effective as Kuba was given Kuba's minutes on the 2nd pairing? And who plays in Kuba's spot on the PP? Etc. etc..

What about a package that includes methot?

Lehner is a major sticking point for me. I'd pass. Methot could probably be involved in that, not sure what extra you'd have to pay, but at that point you've given a fair package for sure.

Agreed... substitute Bishop for Lehner then okay... Sens drafted Lehner with the 2nd round pick from Columbus in the Leclaire/Vermette trade. I don't want to send them basically Lehner back. Lehner will be the better goalie in the future...

Send - 15th overall pick, Puempel, Foligno, Bishop... -- take it or leave it Columbus...

My personal opinion is that I wouldn't let Silfverberg, Noesen or Lehner go. The rest are up for grabs I guess.

That's my feeling as well.

I still think Nash should go for a roster player (ie. Michalek), top prospect and a 1st. Columbus asking for more because Nash is worth more to them and they want to hit a home run. We'd be doing them a favor taking that salary on.

Would you make the deal if Michalek was involved? Seems like you're plugging a hole and immediately opening another one.

IF Michalek is involved.. then you don't send Zibby. It's the 15th overall, Bishop & Michalek... that's it..

If only for a few games.. Karlsson & Cowen did play together. They looked okay... but they each need a little more experience before going there again.

Time for it to become full time now IMO. Cowen's a beast.

He's not ready, keep him with Gonch next year and watch him flourish.

Also, stay away from Nash.

Let's not kid ourselves, it's Karlsson then there's the rest and Cowen is nothing more than part of "the rest" right now.
