We'll see. Like I think I have said 500 times now, this is the year to ride the momentum from Bingo and the guys that have been playing all season long. The excuse of "let him play a ton of games in Bingo" is out the door because they have all played a ton of games in Bingo.

We'll see though, interesting thought and talk for now.

We don't know how Karlsson will do points-wise with a different D partner. We don't know how Phillips will look, especially given the long layoff. We don't know how Wiercioch/Borowiecki will adjust to the NHL. We don't know how Latendresse will fit in and we don't know if Regin will stay healthy, etc.

Lots of question marks that just can't be answered yet…we'll need a few games to assess the situation properly. Of course, in a 48-game season, a few bad games off the hop can really hurt playoff chances, so here's hoping we get some guy roaring out of the gate. I expect big things from Spezza, Turris, and Karlsson.

We also didn't have and didn't need Latendresse last year, and almost the same can be said about Regin. Turris had a rough year because of missing camp and then having to learn a new system, new Conference, so I would imagine he will be even stronger this year (and he was pretty good last year). We will have one more player with a dangerous shot in Silfverberg -- and he is also very good defensively. The comparisons to a "young Alfie" are, of course, premature, but they are there for a reason.

Yes, missing Cowen hurts, but not Kuba. He is (was?) a good 2nd pairing guy but was playing top pairing minutes for us. While I don't think Methot is any more a top-pairing guy than Kuba, he is younger and does not have a history of hip/groin injuries.

Gonchar seems to have rebounded nicely (Sochi calling?), Phillips just needs to get a mental picture of Gary Bettman on every wrong-colored jersey out there and he'll be in beast mode.

Are we *really* worried about our third pairing? Seriously?

You're only seeing the good sides though.
What if Greening and Michalek struggle and last year was a fluke? I'm not saying it will happen but just pointing out the good probabilities (Turris will be better etc) is incomplete analysis IMO.
Of course we should be worrying about the 3rd pairing, if our expectations are to make a playoff run. Our defense as it stands is barely playoff caliber, I would even say it's easily bottom 3 in the East. Imagine Methot is in the box for a penalty. you have Gonchar (39), Philips(35), Lundin(pretty meh) and 2 rookies.
Karlsson can PK just fine, but he will play less ES minutes if he does, which means our bottom 2 pairing that you don't really seem to care about will have to step up.
Bottom line: our D is not good enough for a playoff run without Cowen. We NEED another top 4 guy. BIG time.

Greening will struggle because he will not be playing with Spezza. You'll have one of Latendresse or Silfverberg replacing him. The thing about the third pairing is that it's OK to put younger players out there, as long as you have a vet to help them out. I'd be more concerned about a high-end rookie like Schultz being asked to do it all in Edmonton, than Patrick Wiercioch playing on the bottom pairing.

They have Whitney, Smid, Petry, the other Schultz... I don't think Justin Schultz will play much 5 on 5 or PK but he's gonna be dynamite on the power play with the 3 young gunz.

Can you imagine if Karlsson gets injured Laugh1 :rp:

Yeah, there's a lot of truth to that. Especially considering teams around us will be doing the same. Wiercioch and Benoit really seem to be the two that I would keep in Ottawa, they've done everything asked of them and more - and seem to fit the bill for us. The issue I have with our D right now is that it's pretty soft, so adding a guy like C.White - or maybe even giving the job to Boroweicki might be a must.

Still...they've done what we've asked in Bingo, might as well see what they can do here, supported by a young Norris winner, Phillips, Gonchar and Methot, we MIGHT be okay, might...

Murray was on the Team:

PS, I stole this, so don't give me any Dung. Smile

- we're in a good position with this shortened season
-Thinks they're in a good position with a shortened season
-Thinks they have 8 or 9 guys that are NHL ready in bingo
-Says he's received a number of calls from free agent defencemen over the past few days and also has spoken to a few gms to address the D
-Might bring someone up from the bsens to help on d
-Lundin out for 3-4 weeks at l-Thinks Ceci is a longer term project but will look at him at camp.
-Very happy with Bishop and Lehner gonna take a hard look at both of them.
-Thinks the team is tough enough but if not he'll have to address it.east

Hopefully The Big Rig hasn't been eating too much at Big Rig. It'll be interesting to see the fitness level of some of these guys as they come into camp. As of the end of the lockout they had 13 days to get ready for opening night. Not a lot of time.

I'm gonna give you Dung anyway. You could've at least touched it up to make it somewhat respectable.

Also, according to Mr. Buffet Garrioch, the Sens are considering bring Noesen into camp.

I was gonna, but fatherhood has made me lazy.

Diddle yeah! I wanna see Noesen at camp, why not? Put some pressure on some other guys.

Grant for sure, he's right there. Probably a better player than Daugavins or Condra at this point. JOB type.

Yeah, I was gonna say him, he's close, but could really use the rest of this year to fine tune his game in Bingo.

He's really using his strength again after a tentative year. Give him the rest of this year and I bet he's knocking on the door next season, unless we feel our PK forwards aren't good enough.

He's solid and I've liked him since I got to watch a couple Spartans games on TV. He's done nothing but improve and I would be willing to bet you see him in a Sens uniform at some point this season. He's right there.
