That lineup makes me think a trade or a pickup is necessary. I can't imagine another season with Greening on the top line. He just doesn't fit.

This. Stick with your scorers on the top 2 lines, grinders on the bottom 2. I can't see them just adding a Kelly and doing nothing else.

I don't like him there either, but Spezza and Michalek looked like garbage in the playoffs without him on their line, so maybe he adds more to that trio than fans notice. He has a tendency to not finish off plays as consistently as he should, but he does the dirty work that opens up space for the other 2.

The bigger issue is that 2nd line if alfie retires/get hurt as it would be very young and very soft, imo.

That's where young PA Parenteau comes in. Beer

I have question marks regarding parenteau. but I think he'd be a interesting player to have here. I bet the habs make a run for him and offer lots of money. that's if the isles don't resign him.

Parenteau will re-sign in New York.

I'm pulling for Hudler.

Either would probably fit in well. We'd certainly have a better chance taking a big run at one of those two than we have at getting Parise.

Then that ruins my little lineup and makes yet another bottom 6 guy expendable. If Foligno could learn how to drive the net and not get called all the time, he and Michalek with Spezza could be of use. If not, then....it would be near useless.

Hate to say...but Fat Penner looks great right now.

His inconsistency is just too much for me. In Ottawa, he'd be crucified by the media. Can you imagine the pancake jokes from Garrioch though. Laugh1

thay'd be the best-of-friends. trade recipes and all.

I think we'd have a chance with Hudler but all that will come down to what MacLean thinks of Hudler and what Hudler thinks of MacLean. I'm sure he knows if thre's fit there.

He was a force again today too. Looking real good on a 3rd line with Williams. If things stay positive, I could see LA offering him and extension and Penner accepting. He appears to have something going with Sutter as coach.

All of a sudden this guy is a hot commodity, so now if we had interest there'll be a lot of competition.

Like I said, it's the inconsistency. Today he looks great, and tomorrow he's the butt end of a joke. Literally. He's probably better off staying in LA if they make an offer though. I just wonder how much term they'll give him with Richards, Carter, Doughty and Kopitar all signed for long term/dollars.

I'd be alright with Penner as a 3rd-liner, but if we're signing him, it'd be to play on the top two lines...which is exactly where you don't want him, in my opinion.

I hear we're going to sign Parise, and give him Scotiabank Place as part of his deal. It will be renamed to "Parise Palace".

Good article on Regin:

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports/Regin+better+cast+down+Sens+depth+chart/6575452/story.html

The nice thing about Regin (when healthy), is that he can play "in any situation" as the kids like to say. He doesn't look out of place on the 2nd or 3rd lines, on the PP or on the PK. Of course, this "jack-of-all-trades" type player isn't our biggest need right now, but if we were to make a trade, he helps maintain the depth of our team.

Plus, as we saw in the playoffs when our scoring dried up, it's never a bad thing to have a guy on your 3rd line that can put the puck in the net, and Regin can be that guy.

We'll see where Regin goes from here. Next year will define his NHL career both as a Senator and a player in general. He's a nice player and everyone sees the potential there but he needs to find a way to piece it all together. Will he? No idea.

I like the move simply because it will keep everyone very honest. You slack and there is someone to take your spot (aside from Spezza, Karlsson, and Alfi). There is no shortage of depth anywhere in the organization.

Bringing back a guy like Kelly will re-enforce that as well.

People keep bringing up Parenteau and as the article states guys are given more ice time and move up the depth chart based on a crappy team. That very well could be Parenteau. If I'm Murray maybe you look at making a move for a guy like Okposo who would be exactly what the Sens need.

So, with Regin signed, our forward lineup looks something like this:

Michalek/Spezza/(UFA/trade)
Silfverberg/Turris/Alfi
Foligno/Regin/Neil
Greening/JOB/Smith
Condra

Call-ups: Stone, Hoffman, Da Costa, Petersson, Zibanejad

Given that we assume we'll be bringing in top-6 winger (pleasepleaseplease), is there still room to sign a guy like Kelly? Well, sure! Granted Kelly will likely garner a raise over the $2.125M he made this year, given his career best 39 pts, there's plenty of cap space to go around for another extremely useful player (kinda like Regin).

Consider Kelly an insurance policy for maintaining the depth on our roster. He's another guy, like Regin, that can move anywhere in the lineup.

The big question is how many, if any, of our prospects will be ready for prime time? And if they are ready for prime time, is there still any harm in letting them light up the AHL? Probably not.

Let the good times roll.

Depth everywhere is important and that includes the bottom 6. If everyone could play in the bottom 6 Filatov and da Costa would be in the NHL right now. Fact is, it does take a certain type of player to play those minutes.

Kelly coming in would keep the bottom 6 just as honest and Regin and another top 6 UFA keeping the top 6 honest.

Younger guys need to beat players out for their spots, if they are good enough then you make a move then. Until a guy like Hoffman or Stone can come in and force the organization to make a move then they will have to keep waiting. Lots for them to prove still. Lets see if they can get that ship in Bingo on the right path first.
