2012/13 Lineup

Greg Zanon please. Great defensive D-man who blocks a ton and isn't afraid to hit either.

Zanon is meh, IMO they need a guy who is solid in his own end that also has a bomb of a LH shot. Too many teams focus in on Karlsson on the PP and he needs a partner out there that's not afraid to shoot and get pucks through.

The more and more I think about Garisson is 100% that guy. People may not agree with it but I would also look at Souray.

Having Karlsson and one of those two out there would allow for the PP to operate with a lot more room down low and make some plays.

I would do Garrison if I had the option - although I was a supporter of trying Souray last summer or whenever Dallas got him on the cheap.

The question is...do we need a more defensive guy back there to stabilize things, or do we want more of a points guy? Offense in this league is being generated more and more from the back end, but it won't help too much if we keep giving up some of the grade A chances we did last year.

Souray is fine defensively and he's a pretty heavy hitter. I have always liked him as a D man so I may be a bit bias. Still think he's a solid option.

Garisson would be #1 on my list now though.

I like Souray too. My only beef with him is that he's undisciplined. Although, he does stick up for his team-mates. Most D-Men that are extraordinarily talented on offense get tagged with the "defensive liability" label and it's bull$h1t a lot of the time too so I ignore it.

I have to agree, both are viable options. Especially Garrison, but my fear is that he'll want a long term and he hasn't proven that much in his career yet.

Garrison would be a solid addition for years to come and would ensure Cowen isn't forced to take on more than he can handle. Kind of locks Borowiecki out though.

Souray would be a good short term solution, not sure how he is defensively and speed-wise.

We have $36M on the books for next year, Karlsson would add $6-7M to that which still gives us at least a few million to hit the floor (whatever it may be).

no way would I want Sourray here. He can be such a pylon at times. Gets outplayed in his own zone. Sure he's got a hell of a shot but that isn't worth it in my books. kinda of a Marc-Andre Bergeron who's on the last leg of his career.

This Garrison character has my interest... he's a UFA this summer... any history at all between him and Murray or PMac?

Doubt it, he's been a part of Florida for a few years now. Really risky though IMO.
