The Sens pulled out a close one back home at SBP finishing off the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in a Sunday early evening affair. This game saw Spezza hit his 200th goal milestone while Rundblad finally took care of that pesky first NHL goal issue. Another solid game by some of the youngsters.

The Sens "Jet" off to Winnipeg where they'll put their 4-1-1 run up against the Jets own 4-1-1 streak on Tuesday night. The Jets seem to have really started to turn things around so this will definitely not be the same team they faced earlier in the season. The Sens continue to surprise as well so this game has the makings of being a really fun one to watch.

OTTAWA (11-10-2)
Goals leader: Milan Michalek (12)
Assists leader: Erik Karlsson (20)
Points leader: Jason Spezza (22)

WINNIPEG (9-10-4)
Goals leader: Evander Kane (10)
Assists leader: Nik Antropov (11)
Points leader: Kyle Wellwood (17)

This is actually a very important game. This is the definition of a 4 pointer. They can really put the hammer down on Winnipeg and bury them or with one lose they can be in a dog fight all year long with the Jets. Huge game coming up, these are the games they need to win.

Pretty much every game in the Eastern Conference could be deemed a "4-pointer" right now. With Washington and T-Bay on the fringe, the race for the 8th spot is ridiculous.

Every game is an "important game" for the Sens, and that won't change unless they really fall off the map.

The way I see it, Ottawa has to beat the teams they "should" beat and steal the odd game against the top teams. Not too much to ask, IMO.

Pretty much but again, beating teams in and around the 7th and 8th spot and the teams below the Sens in the standings are the big games. Win those and play 500 on the road, they should be right in the mix all year.

The one thing that has to improve, IMO, is our goaltending. Anderson has been really good in spots, and just needs to be more consistent (isn't this always the case with our goalies?).

If Anderson really finds his game, and the rest of the team keeps playing like its playing, we'll be a playoff team...if not...well...who knows.

Anderson has to be better. It sucks he got a week break there because he was starting to get into a groove. That Carolina game and a pretty steady schdule over the next little bit might be exactly what the Dr. ordered for him. Auld has seen 2 full games in basically the last 3 weeks so he should be good to ride the bench the next little bit.

Anderson played well last night, but he let in that first goal, which was soft (although a very good shot). The others were scrambly goals that could go in on anyone.

He isn't far off his game right now, but if a couple bad goals cost us a couple games...that could be the difference in our season.

Who was expecting a playoff berth this season anyway? I know I wasn't. If they make the playoffs that would be a pretty major accomplishment. It's going to require that all the players continue to improve and for Anderson to steal a few games. I'm not sure the playoffs is a realistic goal.

First it was a gaurantee they would be in the basement. Then it was just a flash in the pan 6 game winning streak. Then it was a case of the PP carryign the team, so on and on. Fact of the matter is they were never as bad at they were last year and this year they are playing to their capabilities and probably still have more to give.

The Sens are a team that is still learning and still building yet, they are competitive on most nigths and are winning a lot of hockey games. The Sens are a good team and if they continue to play hard, play well, and stay healthy, they will be in the mix until the last week of the season if not, make it.

In a way I am kind of glad Anderson hasn't been playing his best because I don't have to hear the "Anderson is carrying the team" BS that everyone would be talking about if he was playing the same hockey he did last year.

GAC (Guilty As Charged, for those of you who don't watch Cougar Town).

P.S. Thank you for typing "berth" instead of "birth".

It's not that I was expecting or not expecting a playoff spot. I never really have any expectations going into a season, and it was pretty clear we'd battle it out for 8th.

Regardless of expectations, it's ALWAYS disappointing to miss the playoffs, and it's ALWAYS thrilling to make the playoffs. If we end up getting in the playoffs this year, the only team we don't want to face is Pittsburgh…we could realistically beat any of the other teams, especially if Matrix gets in a groove.

I just want them to play well enough to shut the guys at THN up for good

Picking us to finish last wasn't really that ludicrous at the time. It's about time we get over our rage at THN (except for that Ken Campbell waste-of-flesh...that guy can burn in hell).
