Don't expect Sens to make the playoffs. Don't be disappointed if they don't. Don't encourage them to either. Are they not rebuilding? I'll be very content with them giving prospects complete run of the team and drafting high for a few years if that's the case in order to ice a competitive team for the next 30 years.

I'll be disappointed if they miss; don't tell me not to be. And please, enough of this "drafting high for a few years". We've missed the playoffs two of the last three years, spending up to the cap. One season "off" around the cap floor and then, please let's go back to winning and spending.

But think of the possibilities. We could be the next FLA. Or CBJ. Or NYI. Or...

Actually, after a decade of sucking huge, NYI might turn into something after all. But think of all the fun that we could have along the way!

So what if the team loses all its fans, and the city its team. We'll be awesome, possibly, maybe, in a decade!

I think your reply should have been to Dash's reply to my post.

I'm sure Pittsburgh and Washington are really disappointed with the players they drafted after having awful seasons. I'm asking as a fan for one more season of losing with a team of players that try hard every game, and getting Yakupov, so that in 3 years the Sens win the cup with a line up of franchise players surrounded by veterans and role players that signed in Ottawa because their chances were good. Not because they got "a third year" or "overpaid because Ottawa is desperate".

They made the playoffs for a dozen years and aside from a couple of playoff game revenue, what do they have for it? Cause I will tell you what Pittsburgh has... a Stanley Cup and Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and Staal.

Sure, I've heard the otherside of the argument too, but pretty much every championship team has had awesome drafting. And awesome drafting is a lot easier when you have the top picks.

All I know is that a re-build takes longer than 6 - 9 months.

Haven't see Yakupov play. Will he be a lot higher of a prospect than any other kid in the next draft? Drafting a Russian player scares the crap out of me. Sens have had bad luck and experiences with them (Volchy is the exception).

Yakupov is playing in Sarnia, Ontario. I think that says a lot about his character. I know other Russian's have said it, but he says he wants to play in the NHL and that is why he left Russia to play in Canada, because Canadian hockey is great. He knows what he has to do. He's also a Muslim which is very cool. Adds a lot of interesting stories and Canada's one of, if not the most multi-cultural.

I think there's skeptics to any player, Russian or not, no matter where they play and how well they do. Id still love to have him on the Sens.

And yes, a rebuild does take a few years, which is why I don't understand the rush to make the playoffs?

The thing about Russians is not where they play in their rookie years, it's what they will threaten to do when their bunghole agents tell them they will get more $$$ elsewhere.

And here's why Regin will score 50 pts:

- Has the potential to do so
- WIll get every chance at the 2nd line center, unlike what Clouston used to do (one bad game = back to the 4th line), and Mrs Underwood is not there anymore.
- Zibanejad and DaCosta won't play 2nd line center for an entire season no matter how you slice it, we're talking bout rookies who have more important things to learn (like defensive responsabilities, getting used to playing a lot of games...) to get their career on the right track.
- Spezza and Michalek will get hurt, and here's what happens when you give guys ice time:

Sens had better hope Spezza plays at least 75 games. He would have had a relatively healthy season last year if not for the cheap shot by Letang that separated his shoulder.
Who plays first line centre if Spezza goes down? There is no more Fisher or Kelly. That is one scary thought. If Spezza is out for a good length of time... Sens finish deadlast in the standings... you can book that. He is the most important player on the Sens right now.

Wow. Does that mean we have to back up the truck to keep Filatov? Of those 48 assists I'd figure 25-28 would go to him, add a few more not assisted by Spezky and you have a 30+, maybe 35+ goal man.

That's being mighty optimistic. Butler and Filatov on his wings, or Alfie and Michalek - some variation thereof, I think one of Spezza's biggest point contributors will be Karlsson/Gonch/Rundblad, not sure how many goals we're gonna score up front to get him to 83 points.

When Puempel makes the team next year (only half kidding), then we'll chat, but now? I can only hope this one is correct. I think this should possibly be under the CRAZY prediction thread.

Puempel's probably 3-4 years away. He'll finish out his Jr. career and then maybe a year or two of AHL. Look at guys like Tangradi and Hodgson for that matter. Guy was a top prospect at one time. Very slow progression for him. Even Eberle wasn't rushed.

The problem with Puempel is that he's built like a 12 year old boy. Pure sniper though, those are the guys who can make the jump a little quicker.

Only way that happens is Karlsson and Gonchar each get 50+ pts and our power play is top 5 in the league...

He also predicted the Sens to finish second in the East last year, 'nuff said.

Maybe there's a lockout next year and him and Noesen continue to develop well in the CHL.
I beliebe Zibanejad was drafted ahead of Couturier because he was more ready, then they took 2 guys (noesen and puempel) who are years away. The best guys from the 03 draft (Getzlaf, Perry, Richards, Kesler...) had at least 3 extra years of development after their draft.
At least we have Silfverberg and DaCosta next year so no rush.

To be honest it's not a stretch if Gonchar decides to show up...
Karlsson and Spezza are awesome PP players, and Butler has a very nice release.
I think 5 on 5 we are the worst team in the league (AINEC). But at least give me a lethal PP system, the potential is there.
