What did he predict for Gonchar? I think it was 42 pts if I'm not mistaken. If we have two d-men getting 40+ points, I think we'd be a lock for the playoffs. Now that I've mentioned that, I doubt either of these two come this close to these numbers.

My rebuttal is that Karlsson takes a dip but gets a very impressive 42 pts on the season. I think Gonchar gets 34 pts.

42 points is what he predicted for Gonchar. It's certainly possible, as is the 56 point prediction for EK. Assuming I see it first, I'll be posting all of Chirp's predictions in here.

42 and 34 would still be good numbers. Not great, but good. I think it's more likely that EK ends up on the higher end of this divide (42-56) and Gonchar ends up towards the lower end (34-42). We'll see.

Is it October yet? Vertigo

Call me crazy, but I think this season other teams will recognize that Karlsson is our best player. They're gonna try to figure him out just like they did with Mike Green. Add power play time sharing with Rundblad and Gonchar, hopefully some defensive improvement under the watchful eyes of Paul Maclean, and I see it being a weaker offensive year for Karlsson.

That doesn't mean he won't be totally awesome. In fact I think we see him take significant steps in becoming a better defenceman this season. The 60-point seasons will come soon after.

Not if Mika Zibanejad has his say Wink The kid plans to impress and stick around and, if he does, Regin either moves over or down.

I can't see him making the NHL this year at this point. No rush and the SEL is a good league for preparing guys.

I can honestly say, I would much prefer Zibanejad to Regin's "performance" last year. Of course, if Regin bounces back it's a different story. Both are listed at 6'2" and Zibanejad, at 192 lbs, is 6 lbs lighter. However he's spent most of the summer in Ottawa working out with Chris Schwartz (the Sens' Strength and Conditioning coach), so I expect him to gain at least 5 lbs of muscle (hopefully a bit more, given his frame). Regin, on the other hand, has been rehabbing major shoulder surgery. I would not be at all surprised if Zibanejad entered camp ahead of Regin in strength/weight. Plus the fact that Zibanejad *likes* to play a very aggressive style (while Regin seems to shy away from contact -- he certainly almost never initiates it) and the choice becomes rather simple, for me.

Honestly, the only thing that Regin has over Zibanejad is his one-way salary which, unfortunately, will probably be enough.

I think we'd all take just about anybody over the Regin that we saw last season.

Still, I love marakh's call. I love it so much that I'm gonna make a compound call. If Regin gets 50 points, we make the playoffs.

Book it.

Ha. I wouldn't say it's a good chance, either. I stand by my claim, though. If he pulls it off, it's a sign that we're making the playoffs.

Chirp predicts Filatov's output:

2011/2012 PREDICTION- 78 GP 25 G 26 A 51 PTS

http://www.senschirp.ca/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=397:looking-ahead-nikita-filatov-and-the-search-winner&Itemid=13

Certainly possible. I wouldn't bet the rent, but that's attainable. It absolutely depends on him and Spezza establishing chemistry. If they do, watch out, especially if Butler is both on the right wing and playing like he did in his last 20 games or so. Imagine what Spezza can do with two wingers that can finish?

Actually I'd start Filatov on the second line and let him earn his way up. A line of Filatov-Spezza-Butler is not exactly the hardest line to play.

I think Regin can bounce back. I could be wrong and I no longer hold any allegiance to any of the players, but I think he'll be a hot 2nd line C with Michalek and Butler/Alfredsson.
