I think this has a good chance of happening.
Not if Mika Zibanejad has his say
The kid plans to impress and stick around and, if he does, Regin either moves over or down.
I can't see him making the NHL this year at this point. No rush and the SEL is a good league for preparing guys.
I can honestly say, I would much prefer Zibanejad to Regin's "performance" last year. Of course, if Regin bounces back it's a different story. Both are listed at 6'2" and Zibanejad, at 192 lbs, is 6 lbs lighter. However he's spent most of the summer in Ottawa working out with Chris Schwartz (the Sens' Strength and Conditioning coach), so I expect him to gain at least 5 lbs of muscle (hopefully a bit more, given his frame). Regin, on the other hand, has been rehabbing major shoulder surgery. I would not be at all surprised if Zibanejad entered camp ahead of Regin in strength/weight. Plus the fact that Zibanejad *likes* to play a very aggressive style (while Regin seems to shy away from contact -- he certainly almost never initiates it) and the choice becomes rather simple, for me.
Honestly, the only thing that Regin has over Zibanejad is his one-way salary which, unfortunately, will probably be enough.
