Joy tweeted that Daugavins and Bass are game-time decisions but Daugavins is almost definite. I asked for a clarifications -- almost definite playing or sitting?
Looking at the D pairings I'm a little concerned:
Cowen-Benoit
Borowiecki-Kinrade
Raymond-Turner
A guy from junior who hasn't played a single game in the AHL and doesn't know the team yet is playing top-pairing minutes. An NCAA call-up is on your second pairing. And a guy who's not eve on the team's roster page (Turner) is on the third pairing.
But at least they're going with 6D. Hopefully Cowen is an upgrade over Wiercioch. Lehner will appreciate 6'5" and 220 patrolling the area in front of him.

He's had him there for a while. Perhaps Lehner thrives under pressure. Who knows.

If Cowen struggles, they will probably move him down in the pairings. You know for sure Portland will shoot the puck on Cowen's side...

Shoot the puck on Cowen's side?
IMHO I think that's the last thing they want to do. Mancari and Adams will already be Cowen's targets, if they make his life easier by coming to them, I think they'll pay a heavy toll.

This will be Cowen's first AHL game. While I think he's got a ton of potential, it's unrealistic to expect it to be all realized in his first game.
That said, he's big, he's quick, and we don't have to tell him it's the other Portland.
