Hnidy signs a 1-year deal with Boston. He's still recovering from a shoulder injury, but has been practicing with the team. So what does "one year" mean -- the remainder of the 2010-11 season?

Columbus grabbed Rivet for half-price.

Colorado have given up 3 or more goals for 17 straight games. Longest NHL streak since 2000.

Still, cap era, massive dollar amount, couldn't they have done a "Keith" and done 10 years, 48 million. That's the highest figure I would have gone to in a cap era, with Keith sitting there making less over 500K less and being better. Strange to me, but don't really care.

LOL, I actually think opposite of you I guess. You are using the "cap era" as an argument FOR longer term contracts? You would think that with an expiring CBA and uncertainty in cap ceiling, etc., that you would prefer shorter term deals.

And the Gonchar contract is far worse than Seabrook's deal for many reasons - age being the main point. Any 35+ contract is very scary in the "cap era". Nothing worse than paying a player that no longer plays for you.

Yeah, the argument is for longer contracts as less cap hit. He's due to make 5.8 million, which is fine, he's good, but this is a player who's worth 4.8-5 tops on a long term IMO. 10 years from now Seabrook's only 35, it's perfect. My guess is they told Chicago that that isn't enough and Chicago went for what's probably his best years at more $$ (and cap).

This is the era of the 8-10 year contracts for less cap money - and IMHO, this doesn't fit in with the way things are working themselves out in this NHL. I suppose another reason was Seabrook's camp wanted a 12 year to take him to age 37 - and the Hawks balked at that. This is all just my opinion though Dash, we're seeing how some teams don't really like that idea (odd that the Hawks were willing to do it for Keith, Kane and Toews though), but in the end, these teams will identify their rock solid core (in their eyes) and swing for the fences with an 8-12 year package.

As for Gonchar, it was a risk, not a huge one IMO, but a risk. You're talking about a player who Ray Shero wanted to sign for 2 years, not 3, so it's not like the Sens should be suffering through his play now or next year, the Pens were betting on the 3rd year being questionable. I bet Gonchar bounces back in a big way in the 2nd year, the 3rd year no longer really matters. If he's on the LTIR, that's fine, if he plays and he's not great, we have the cap space to absorb it, if he plays amazing, we can still trade him for a tiny package. It doesn't matter anymore IMO.

Dumont a healthy scratch today, NHLSoucesSay says it's the Habs - which would be a great pickup for them.

That would mean Nashville is selling... thus they are giving up on their season.
which means their 1st round pick the Sens hold will be more valuable.

But.... it seems like one of those typical (French Player) to Habs rumour.

True, it's speculation and nothing else right now. Dumont will move though, I have a feeling the Preds don't want to turn away an asset for him right now.

I'll keep an eye on this one. I stopped following NHLSS cause he seems to "break" stories 20-30 minutes after they happen and make up Eklund-esque rumours.

Yes, I'm about to unfollow him too. I'll assess his credibility post-deadline day. Cussing Twitter is the best! Dancing

Nashville's about to beat the Blue Jackets. With 1:35 left in the 3rd, with the game tied, Weber gets a pass out of the box, sets up Erat for a one-timer and Garon kicks a rebound out to Legwand who roofs it.

Weird ending. With just under 6 seconds left, Umberger accidentally collided with Weber at the end boards and Weber lacerated his head on the rail. Weber was infuriated and was supposed to leave the ice because he was bleeding. Yet he stayed for the remainder and he took his aggression out on Tyutin infront of the net, sending him to the ice with a cross-check. Ttyutin got up and the scuffled and Weber got his mits or stick up and hit Tyutin in the head. Might be facing some punishment.

Balls. I'm cheering for Nashville to lose as much as I am for Ottawa to lose. Laugh1
