I'm still wondering why the Avs gave up Stewart + Shattenkirk. I watched parts of the Blues game yesterday or Sunday (whenever it was) and Stewart's a legit power forward. Those guys don't grow on trees - although, I realize that the EJs of the world don't either - I would have stuck with Stewart and Shattenkirk and looked for a smaller deal to bring in a puck-mover - or drafted one this year.

The deal was a bit strange. Pretty cool, but weird too.

They didn't need a puckmover with the likes of Liles and Shattenkirk in the lineup, what they needed was an absolutely unquestionable #1 defenceman. Is EJ there yet? Absolutely not. That being said, based on the players available he is clearly the guy with the most upside. By all accounts the guy is already a top pairing defenceman based on defence only, now he needs the offensive side to catch up. It's a risky deal for Colorado, but one I think they needed to take.

I'm actually more confused by St-Louis' motives for a trade here since they already have 2 of the best power-forwards in the game in Backes and Oshie and already have an offence first defenceman in Pietrangelo. I guess they are banking on Pietrangelo becoming a defensive force as well, or more of a defence by committee.

I read Davidson wasn't really big on EJ. He wasn't his draft choice and the fact that they only signed him for 2-years says they're weren't really sold on him to begin with.

They figured he was expendable. Colorado is definately on a "our defence blows we need to fix this" roll.

Yeah, possibly from a shot he stopped with his mask at the ASG.

I guess with that hip injury he has, he will never fully get rid of it, so he may have to pay through pain a lot, wish all the best to Emery, hope he does well.

After hearing this morning that the Ducks are averaging 7 goals against in the last 3 games I was starting to wonder when this would happen.
