Go to HFBoards and there is a thread about this exact same topic. Rundblad does not have any where near the same amount of potential that Larsson does. You'd be hard-pressed to find a GM who would rather have Rundblad over Larsson, IMO.
Larsson is gonna be a franchise #1 d-man if all pans out, Rundblad will be more like Karlsson-lite. Hell, I'd rather have Larsson than Karlsson to be honest.
Few things:
A) Yes, Larsson is a better long-term prospect than Rundblad
B) Yes, Larsson was much better at 17 than Rundblad. BUT players don't develop in the same way and the rate of development Rund DMC has had since last year's WJCs has been crazy. He's better than Larsson right now, though that's with Larsson apparently struggling with a groin injury this year.
C) This is all irrelevant because Toronto's pick doesn't figure to come close to being able to pick Larsson, so I'm not sure you can set up a comparison between these two guys to analyze the proposed deal.
Anyway, if we took Larsson, I'd offer some combination of Wiercioch/Foligno/Regin/our 2nd (which would be 31st over-all)/the returns, if any, for Fisher and Phillips to move up in the draft, but guys like Rundblad, Cowen and Lehner would be off the table unless we were getting a pick that could nab a Couturier, RNH, or Snoop 'Kog. Even then, it wouldn't be an easy decision and I doubt the other team would offer us that pick for that return anyway.
Karlsson is a complete non-starter. Not only are you giving up proven young talent for potential talent, you're trading away a fan favourite. It would be a total gong show, if it isn't already.
