Karlsson's going nowhere, but I'd even go as far as adding Weircioch to the equation.

Karlsson, Rundblad, and Cowen aren't going anywhere. But if we can swap an additional D prospect for a high end forward prospect, you do it.

Imagine getting a Landeskog/Strome combo?

I'd easily trade Rundblad for the pick if we drafted Larsson with our own.

NO!
Haven't you seen this?

He's leading defencemen in the Swedish Elite, and is ranked 7th overall in the league for scoring- and he's just turned 20! I'm not sure I'd trade Rundblad for Larsson- He's like Karlsson, but bigger. All signs point to him being a sick, sick player.

Now, there is one huge reason they suck so bad!

I love this:

I still feel 100% I can take my game to the next level.”
He’ll get that chance right out of the gate. Leafs coach Ron Wilson said he plans to debut Lupul on a line with Clarke MacArthur and Tyler Bozak.

MacArther and Bozak? Ouch.

I don't even see how this is debatable, sorry. You can point to his offense all you want, but he's 2 years older and he couldn't have played in the NHL at 17 like Larsson could have. Go to HFBoards and there is a thread about this exact same topic. Rundblad does not have any where near the same amount of potential that Larsson does. You'd be hard-pressed to find a GM who would rather have Rundblad over Larsson, IMO.

Larsson is gonna be a franchise #1 d-man if all pans out, Rundblad will be more like Karlsson-lite. Hell, I'd rather have Larsson than Karlsson to be honest.

Few things:

A) Yes, Larsson is a better long-term prospect than Rundblad

B) Yes, Larsson was much better at 17 than Rundblad. BUT players don't develop in the same way and the rate of development Rund DMC has had since last year's WJCs has been crazy. He's better than Larsson right now, though that's with Larsson apparently struggling with a groin injury this year.

C) This is all irrelevant because Toronto's pick doesn't figure to come close to being able to pick Larsson, so I'm not sure you can set up a comparison between these two guys to analyze the proposed deal.

Anyway, if we took Larsson, I'd offer some combination of Wiercioch/Foligno/Regin/our 2nd (which would be 31st over-all)/the returns, if any, for Fisher and Phillips to move up in the draft, but guys like Rundblad, Cowen and Lehner would be off the table unless we were getting a pick that could nab a Couturier, RNH, or Snoop 'Kog. Even then, it wouldn't be an easy decision and I doubt the other team would offer us that pick for that return anyway.

Karlsson is a complete non-starter. Not only are you giving up proven young talent for potential talent, you're trading away a fan favourite. It would be a total gong show, if it isn't already.

On second thought, I didn't see Jordo's comment. But I still probably wouldn't trade Rundblad for Strome/Huberdeau/Hamilton.

Yeah, I think that makes sense... insurance would cover it, cap would come off the books as it's not a 35+ contract.
I can't see how the 35 year rule would come into play if the guy lost an eye. There's got to be some medical exemptions.
Yeah, not sure of the details around a career-ending injury... care to wade through the CBA? I'm sure Roche can provide some insight.

If I am following the conversation correctly, we have switched from talking about Savard to a player with an 35+ contract that suffers a career ending injury?

Any player who signs a contract when they are 35 or over will always be on the Clubs cap whether he is healthy, injured or retired; there is no way around it. But if the player doesn't file his papers and retire, as long as he continues to rehab and work toward a return, LTIR can provide relief.

A perfect current example is Ian Laperriere and the Flyers.

Shabbs, let me know if that is the question you wanted my opinion on.
Thanks for that... I was more curious on the player and their salary, whether it be 35+ or not... normally retirement means the player leaving money on the table for what's remaining in the contract right? But if you're forced to retire due to an injury, yet don't file papers etc... I assume the player will still get paid? Or does contract insurance kick-in and pay the player no matter what?

I understand your angle now.

Yes, if any signed player is forced to retire due to injury, the injured player gets paid all money owed, for the length of his contract, no matter what. Not only does he get his salary, he will also receive a one-time disability benefit cheque. The amount of the benefit cheque he will collect will be based on his age at the time of the injury. On top of that, all hospital, dental and major medical bills will be paid as well.

This all falls under the Career Ending Disability Insurance that the player would file and fall under.

Montreal's taking this seriously - Boston, not yet.

EDIT: Other way around...I just shoveled, that's my excuse. Smile

Oh and the Islanders acquired Al Montoya from Phoenix for a 5th round pick. Will report to Bridgeport of the AHL. That should help their depth.

Apparently that's the complete deal.

I will assume you mean Alexander Salak and if that is the case, call it a huge win for the Blackhawks.

Yes, it was Salak. I did a copy and paste from Lebrun on Twitter, and he botched the name.

Yeah, wow, Frolik and Salak for essentially Skille. Very disappointing if you're a big fan of the Panthers right now. Unless Tallon thinks he can get Skille going, I would assume he knows a whole lot about him, but still...
