Huzzah, Beachemin out, Kuba in?

If you follow the link, you'll note that the Habs are indeed looking to add a D. Just as I've been saying for weeks now.

Yeah I'd suspect it's Pavelski, Burke would definitely go after anyone who was on the US Olympic Team.

I really think he tried to land Bobby Ryan for Kaberle in the summer as well, hoping the Ducks wouldn't be able to sign him.

He strikes me as a very knowledgeable armchair GM but thinks he knows everything but if he were to actually get the job he's in for a rude awakening.

I don't state things as a matter of fact very often. if ever, because anything can happen in the world of hockey; but I feel comfortable with the following assertation.

Pierre McGuire will never be a GM; the players despise him and the only reason he gets mention as a potential GM is becuase he, himself, does all the self-promotion.

Players don't even like talking to him with no cameras around for fear of what will be said the next time there is one. McGuire is a "name dropper" of the worst kind.

I saw him at a funeral I was at recently and the douchebag was on his phone throughout the whole procession in, tribute and procession out.

He has no couth and only looks for his next story.

If Ottawa - because anything can happen - signs Pierre McGuire as GM, prepare for the "laughing stock" tag to stick. Obviously McGuire would change his behaviour if he became a GM, but that won't change the opinion the players, coaches and other GM's already have of him IMO.

PRECISELY what I've been saying for 2-3 months now. PM would be a god awful choice, most especially for our organization, which is already not taken seriously enough as it is.

I don't like the Habs and would want overpayment - even for Kuba.

Laughing3 That's adorable. I really question if the Leafs could land Ryan if they offered every roster player on the team for him. Nah...

He's a self promoting jackass for sure. There's an angle to everything he does. I can barely stand the guy.

It'll be interesting to see who does get the job if not McGuire then. Do I think he's the best choice? Certainly not. Do I think he'll get the job? Absolutely. And if what he says about what he would do with the team on the radio actually comes to fruition, this will be a better team awfully quick.

Is Brent Seabrook on the move? The Hawks might find it tough to fit him into their plans going forward.

Doubt it. That's a guy they find room for.

At who's expense though? They've got about $17 million free for next year, but they don't have a goaltender signed, and only 10 skaters signed. Of those, they are carrying 5 $5+ million dollar contracts, and that doesn't include the $7 million they are paying Sharp and Bolland combined. Something has to give here. They may have room for one high priced d-men/forward, but then they've got to address all the other gaping holes.

Chicago isn't afraid to trade or dump players to keep what they feel is the core. Seabrook is probably one of the last on their list of guys they'll move because of cap concerns.

I think the Hawks are carrying a few million of bonuses from last season which won't be a problem for them next year. I think they'll be ok.

Keith and Seabrook are about as good of a defense pairing as you're going to get, they'd be stupid not to keep that.

Seabrook pretty much got on the Olympic team because of his chemistry with Keith, although Keith is the better player.

They might look for a cheaper alternative to Kjalmarsson who is already making 3.5m, for one.

This all figures in to the Bogo to Ottawa speculation, BTW.

I think Hjarlmasson might be moved to make room. Yet another casualty for Chicago, looking like they might need some astute drafting to get them back to the top.

That was sort of my point. They are all but out of guys to move that aren't part of the core. Something's gotta give here methinks.

They are this season, yes, but the numbers I quote came from capgeek, and only include the salary commitments they are on the hook for, for next season. Any bonuses that carry over will have an effect as well as the things I mentioned.
