He strikes me as a very knowledgeable armchair GM but thinks he knows everything but if he were to actually get the job he's in for a rude awakening.

I don't state things as a matter of fact very often. if ever, because anything can happen in the world of hockey; but I feel comfortable with the following assertation.

Pierre McGuire will never be a GM; the players despise him and the only reason he gets mention as a potential GM is becuase he, himself, does all the self-promotion.

Players don't even like talking to him with no cameras around for fear of what will be said the next time there is one. McGuire is a "name dropper" of the worst kind.

I saw him at a funeral I was at recently and the douchebag was on his phone throughout the whole procession in, tribute and procession out.

He has no couth and only looks for his next story.

If Ottawa - because anything can happen - signs Pierre McGuire as GM, prepare for the "laughing stock" tag to stick. Obviously McGuire would change his behaviour if he became a GM, but that won't change the opinion the players, coaches and other GM's already have of him IMO.

Pierre McGuire as GM would certainly greatly influence changing my NHL team of choice to Pittsburgh.

Sounds a lot like what was said when Gillis took over for the 'Nucks. Just sayin'.

Fair enough. One thing it wouldn't change is the perception of players not wanting to come to Ottawa. I'm not sure if an extra million and extra year would be enough to bring free agents to the Nation's Capital.

For one thing i'm starting to doubt semin will available come july 1st and i'd be very suprised if richards isn't re-signed by dallas. With a dwindling amount of ufa's this summer we might get more trades making the draft more "the main event" as players and picks flying from team to teams. That could signal a few teams going into full rebuild mode.

I nicknamed him "The Name Dropper" years ago.

Other nicknames that I originiated:

Don Brennan: CheapShots

Lou Lamoriello: Lou-cifer

more to come

That's my single biggest concern is it would Ottawa a laughing stock in the league, regardless of how Pierre is off camera.

Same deal with the rumours that Cameron is the next coach, if that happens then Eugene definately has way too much say in the hockey operations of this team and I dare say we will never win anything as long as he owns the Sens.

Surprised like you were with Karlsson? Sarcasm

Two teams have made offers on Francois Beauchemin, and both were turned down. One team was the Sharks. A source very close to the situation called the Leafs demands "out to lunch".

Karlsson was rushed into the lineup IMO and they certainly don't have to do that with Rundblad. It wouldn't surprise me if Rundblad did crack the lineup and they were willing to roll with the mistakes he would likely make a lot of and perhaps go the same route as they did with Karlsson though. Remember this is Karlsson's second year in the NHL so to compare their abilities isn't really fair unless you're talking about the Karlsson pre-NHL compared to Rundblad now.

Karlsson was rushed but Murray was correct in that he would adapt fairly quickly to the NHL. It took a little longer and he had to get sent down to Bingo for a while but he made it.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Rundblad, I suspect he'll have every chance to make the team but it'll also depend on who will be traded and how Cowen will do at camp.

Not surprised, Burke drives a hard bargain.

His plan is to find a team desperate(or stupid) to fill a position and overpay for one of his crappy players. He tried the same thing with Kaberle last summer.

Out to lunch? Don't they just want to start shedding the dumb contracts and move forward? What the heck is Burke asking for, Pavelski? He's just that stubborn and...out to lunch to do that.

Huzzah, Beachemin out, Kuba in?

If you follow the link, you'll note that the Habs are indeed looking to add a D. Just as I've been saying for weeks now.

Yeah I'd suspect it's Pavelski, Burke would definitely go after anyone who was on the US Olympic Team.

I really think he tried to land Bobby Ryan for Kaberle in the summer as well, hoping the Ducks wouldn't be able to sign him.

PRECISELY what I've been saying for 2-3 months now. PM would be a god awful choice, most especially for our organization, which is already not taken seriously enough as it is.
