The Flames are rumoured to be close to a deal with the Habs! For whom? No idea. Hagman?

I'd guess Regehr.

That would cost a TON. I seriously doubt it. Start with a 1st rounder and add IMO.

Not sure why Regehr would cost a ton. He's had a forgettable season, and he has lots of term and money left on his contract ($4M cap hit, two more years). I like Regehr a lot, though, and it'd be nice to see him get out of Calgary.

Montreal's tight to the cap, but will have room moving forward, so they could certainly afford to take on Regehr.

That's the thing. You had a good post earlier outlining the guys available on the Flames. They all have virtually no value. If the Flames are truly intent on shaking their team up, you might as well trade a guy like Regehr who has some value to him. Although I'm not sure they'd get what you're asking for.

Just from reputation alone I think. He's the quintessential warrior who'll do anything to win blah, blah, blah. He's one of the best shot blockers in the league as well. I think basically everyone on Calgary (and Ottawa) looks defective because of the style of play and the crappiness of the play.

If Regher goes somewhere, I truly believe the price will be high - even if it's just for a forward, I think it'll be a pretty good one. SJ should ship a few pieces and try to land him, that's what they need - now.

No need to do it now if you can't get a 1st +. Do it in the summer when teams suddenly realize there's nothing major available in terms of shutdown D.

I'd say Montreal needs offense not defence, I imagine they might be thinking of shipping the other Kostitsyn out.

Why would it take until summer to realize that? If a team is smart they get the jump on the buyers and do it now, before the price goes up, and it will by the day.

That's my thought as well.

With Gorges out for awhile and Markov out (forever?) I'd say they do need D, now and going forward. Which is why I said Montreal might be a landing spot for Kuba.

However from an outsiders perspective I agree with you, he seems like the logical guy to stick around and take over for Alfie. With the number of changes most Sens fans are expecting Philly seems like a good guy to keep around as a constant.

The question is: How many “constants” do we want sticking around from this team, aside from the promising young players? I love what Phillips HAS done for this team, but he might be better suited somewhere else as a 4-5-6 shutdown D-Man, vs. a 1-2-3 top-minute-muncher. He’s not getting any younger.

I understand that logic, but how many young guys can we really have in the lineup next year? If we come into next year with Karlsson, Cowen, Runabland, Gryba it's a sign we are throwing in the towel next season too (something I think ownership isn't prepared to do). That plus we wouldn't have anyone in our top-four with the bility to shut down opponents top lines and it could make for a long season.

I see Cowen & Rundblad starting next season on D.. not Gryba. I think he needs at least another year in the AHL.

Also, it was interesting to hear Pete McGuire this morning on 2 fronts. He continues to mention that Fisher would be a player to be moved and that if the better draft picks have been taken, he would deal our pick for immediate help on the wing + 2 other "components."

Me likey.

I can believe the market for our veterans, it's more that they're pending UFA's rather than veterans though.

The words "Dealing our pick" make me sick though.

I don't know about that.

IF, big IF.. the players they wanted to take in the top 5 -- that is if they pick top 5 which they most likely will.. are gone -- there is an option to trade down and pick up a prospect or more picks -- just to go a couple of more places down in the draft order.

I think, in this draft in particular, I'd rather turn our pick into an NHL proven commodity that can boost our top six.

He strikes me as a very knowledgeable armchair GM but thinks he knows everything but if he were to actually get the job he's in for a rude awakening.

I'd keep Philips and Michalek, maybe rent Big Rig out for the playoffs if we can pull that off and I think 9MM is slowly getting his speed back.

Fisher would be an interesting person to move if we can pull it of but who'd be #2C ??

Good question. I assume he's going out to acquire one if he's GM, or move Regin up there, or Winchester (he's playing like it), or Foligno, or we check out O'Brien, Greening (he plays C I believe), or even Kelly.

I think Greening is a LW.. O'Brien a centreman.

For sure! Trading down is often very lucrative.

Except that it wouldn't be for Tyler Seguin and a top ten pick this year.

About two months ago in late November, the Washington Capitals were calling around looking for a veteran defenceman. They spoke to Sutter, then the Flames’ general manager, about Robyn Regehr. To get the 30-year-old stay-at-home rearguard, the Capitals were willing to offer 26-year-old forward Tomas Fleischmann, who was struggling to score with Washington.

Uh...the answer is no. What else are you sending other than a UFA to be?
