Plus, inr egards to an earlier post, people who bash Murray don't bash him for his drafting or development, they draft him for his awful trades (I'm on the fence, awful is not my opinion)

That's true actually, he's a Dung trader. The Campoli trade was weak, the Heatley trade was pretty good considering we got back a 24 year old forward with tons of NHL experience, the Meszaros trade was good too. The Stillman/Commodore trade should have been better than it was, but it failed.

This deadline was a good one for Murray though IMO. Cullen and Sutton were both excellent players for the Sens.

Out of that list, he's got one bad trade. And even that still isn't as bad as it looked before campoli turned his game around a little. But apart from that deal, the rest seem okay to me. He got rid of the corvo contract, and got two UFAs. That trade, at worst, is a wash. The rest aren't steals, but they're small victories for the sens.

Here's another trade no one mentions: trading up to get Erik Karlsson! The only thing (apart from Campoli) that Murray really p'd me off about was the trade he didn't make.....Dan Boyle Ottawa Senators off-season talk - Page 50 489887

Murray's big failing is one that he shares with a lot of GM's: he overrates and overpays his existing talent (Spezza, Heatley, Fisher, Kelly, Neil, etc.).

Neil proved his worth this past season. Its the term that'll turn ppl off, cuz no way Neil keeps this up for another 3 years. Kelly right now is a steal. The rest, I agree. I think it was N4L who mentioned that the stanley cup final trip probably did more damage than good (with hiring of paddock, overpayment on spezz, heat, fish, emery, hiring eli wilson, etc.)

Obviously it's hindsight, and irrelevant since every other team passed on him for 4 rounds, but Jamie Benn would sure look good in a Sens uniform (much better than Jim O'Brien ugh).

People often forget about Daugavins too, I think he could surprise as well.

Those 2nds would have gotten us two pretty good prospects.

Get rid of the Corvo contract? That alone got Oskar Osala, a 2nd and Brian Pothier at the deadline. Corvo was awesome, we should and could have gotten a good player under contract, but...no use in crying over it now. Sad

Ummm, he's awful. There is no way he becomes an NHL player. He might see some games here and there but he isnt anything but an AHL player and will probably end up with Riga in a couple years when he gets moved down the depth chart.

Thank you. I would have said something but I'm tired of trying to make a case for one of the most dynamic rushing defensemen this franchise has ever seen. Ottawa Senators off-season talk - Page 50 446794

They picked up Butler which is just as good as a 2nd rounder, probably better.

They will also resign one of Cullen or Sutton more then likely who are both better then 2nd rounders.

We could have drafted a good player with the 1st rounder we gave to NYI (ended up being Kyle Palmieri, but other good players were taken right after like Klingberg and Despres). Was Comrie and Campoli really worth it then? I dunno.

We have too many guys signed and too many guys ready to make a jump to the NHL. We will pick up draft picks before this year's draft. Gotta love the depth of this team... Ottawa Senators off-season talk - Page 50 827103

He's come a long, long way man. Last year he ripped it up in the 2nd half. I'd say he's hovering around making it, maybe another year in the AHL, but if his next year is as good or better than his last year, I'd say he's got a big chance to make the Sens.

Depth is what wins along with defense.

Everybody was in an ill-conceived panic over the lack of a "PMD". Campoli is a nice player and he'll payoff quicker than Palmieri or whoever will.

He's a write off. Too small, not tallented enough, and doesnt work nearly hard enough. He might be an ok AHL player and be a call up here and there, but he's an after thought and should be. I was cheering for this guy more then anyone being a Latvian myself, but he's not good enough to be anything more then a frige NHLer.

Here's a little tidbit I read about him yesterday:

The Latvian fire hydrant put together an excellent first (full) season in the AHL and showed some promise with 21
goals (10 on the power play) and 46 points in 72 games. A former member of the St. Michael’s OHL squad with
whom he scored 40 goals, he has a good nose for the net and decent offensive instincts. On nights when he shows
up, his strong trunk helps him win battles in the corners. However, he needs to bring the goods consistently because
he doesn’t have the skill to be able to take a night off. Will likely spend another year in the AHL, but is close and
could end up getting more time with the Senators next year if there’s an injury.

Upside: Poor man’s Tomas Holmstrom, 25-35-60+, 60 PIM
Certainty (NHLer; Upside): 70%

I gotta side with Neely - I saw him quite a bit in Mississauga, and he wasn't even dominating there. Not fast enough for a small guy and he is too weak on his feet.

Campoli has a high ceiling and he's showing signs he can be a really solid player. Hell, O'Brien was a 1st rounder picked around the same area, who would you rather have? Hell, I would take Campoli over Foligno as well. A 26th overall pick (unless it's the one guy you really want) isnt no more likely to be an NHLer then saaaaaay, SIlfverberg or Lehner.

Last year The Sens had an amazing draft and people still complain over a 26th overall pick. Did The Islanders get the better of the deal? Maybe, but as of right now Campoli is actually playing in The NHL and had an extremely strong 2nd 1/2 of the season along with the playoffs.
