If they think Skinner will be gone along with some other guys, then might as well get the guy they turly want. Seems like they are really doing their homework.

Yeah man, our scouting staff is the strongest it's been in a long, long time. I see no reason not to trade down if they like someone in the 20s. 100% if we can add let's say 3 more prospects that they really like, then 2 more from trades, it's a further re-stocking of the cupboards.

I can't really get excited about any of the names outside of the Top 6 - 8... So I really don't mind trading down.

Absolutely, but I would move so far down that it might be a risk. If they can trade down to about 24, 25, they should be able to get their guy.

If it happens, I would imagine they move down to 22 at the most. I remember them saying they liked the top 22, then after that there was a major fall off.

24 I could see, you can basically pick out the first 16-18 guys. Unless Skinner is still there I dont think they make the pick at 16 and will move down.

I specifically remember Tim Murray on the Team saying they really like the top 16-18 guys, then there is a bit of a dropoff. There is no way I want to trade out of this range, I would rather one very STRONG player over a couple of decent ones.

Was it 16-18, okay I might have that wrong, I thought it was up to 22.

Their top 16-18 guys. Hell, they way this draft is shapping up 2 or 3 of those guys may very well be available in the 2nd round as well.

Yeah, I was just gonna say the same thing. This draft is really unpredictable + deep = who knows...

You can basically take every Russian out of that equation so there are 3 to 4 guys gone out of the top 16-18. Take Campbell out, Im guessing they go no where near Watson, Pysyk, Bjugstad, or Etem. There are probably some others in there as well, but you sure as hell bet there are couple off the radar guys that are in ther top 16-18 guys.

Put it this way, if there are 8 -10 of the guys they like left at number 16, they will trade down and hope they might be able to snap up another guy in the 2nd round.

I doubt they trade down....Beau Bennett can be picked int he second round by acquiring another pick some other way. Don't trade down, Murray!

Plus, inr egards to an earlier post, people who bash Murray don't bash him for his drafting or development, they draft him for his awful trades (I'm on the fence, awful is not my opinion)

That's true actually, he's a Dung trader. The Campoli trade was weak, the Heatley trade was pretty good considering we got back a 24 year old forward with tons of NHL experience, the Meszaros trade was good too. The Stillman/Commodore trade should have been better than it was, but it failed.

This deadline was a good one for Murray though IMO. Cullen and Sutton were both excellent players for the Sens.

He also sucks at contracts, always overpaying whether it's Spezza, Heatley (hahaha enjoy that Sharks), Fisher, Kelly.

Kuba was good market value, so was Kovalev, but he's made some mistakes. I'll take a GREAT drafter over a great trader any day though.

Campoli's going to have a good season. I liked the Stillman/Commodore trade as I had little use for Corvo or Eaves.

Murray's big failing is one that he shares with a lot of GM's: he overrates and overpays his existing talent (Spezza, Heatley, Fisher, Kelly, Neil, etc.).

Out of that list, he's got one bad trade. And even that still isn't as bad as it looked before campoli turned his game around a little. But apart from that deal, the rest seem okay to me. He got rid of the corvo contract, and got two UFAs. That trade, at worst, is a wash. The rest aren't steals, but they're small victories for the sens.

Here's another trade no one mentions: trading up to get Erik Karlsson! The only thing (apart from Campoli) that Murray really p'd me off about was the trade he didn't make.....Dan Boyle Ottawa Senators off-season talk - Page 49 489887

Neil proved his worth this past season. Its the term that'll turn ppl off, cuz no way Neil keeps this up for another 3 years. Kelly right now is a steal. The rest, I agree. I think it was N4L who mentioned that the stanley cup final trip probably did more damage than good (with hiring of paddock, overpayment on spezz, heat, fish, emery, hiring eli wilson, etc.)

Obviously it's hindsight, and irrelevant since every other team passed on him for 4 rounds, but Jamie Benn would sure look good in a Sens uniform (much better than Jim O'Brien ugh).
