Melnyk makes his money in other places - like Capital Tickers for one.

doesn't anyone want to retain sutton as well?
i'd sure like to.
sutton and Z michaleck on one team... a lot less shots on goals.

If we get Michalek then I think we'd better just go with Kuba for next year. I liked what Sutton brought, but not enough to go through the ordeal of having to trade Kuba to sign him. Just bring us Michalek please!
Phillips - Michalek
Kuba - Karlsson
Campoli - Carkner
I like that, I'm just as trusting in that as I would be if Volchenkov is in there and it sets the stage for a nice development time for Wiercioch and Cowen and Gryba.

I like this. Having Campoli there means that when he goes through his inevitable period of suck, we can spell him out with one of the 3 you mentioned.

Yeah exactly. Sign Michalek, perhaps trade a roster forward or two and
re-sign Cullen. I really like the sounds of that personally.
Flo The Action wrote:Imo we could realy use sutton those crushing blows that puts the fear of god in our opponents whenever he's on the ice will be missed. I think keeping sutton and trading kuna ( with maybe foligno) could bring back a top 6 forward. I'd love to have a third line with some top 6 on it. Talk about secondary scoring!
Then again maybe grubs is our new sutton..?
i agree that after that leopold hit he dissapeard but i wouldn't rule out he'd be a good fit. he's not a top3 D-man but in a 4rth or 5th.rooneypoo wrote:Flo The Action wrote:Imo we could realy use sutton those crushing blows that puts the fear of god in our opponents whenever he's on the ice will be missed. I think the Sutton-love really dried up around here when he largely disappeared during the playoffs. He was really tenuous & uncertain for most of the PIT series.

doesn't anybody realize that there would be a big hole without a guy who can do what volchie and sutton can do hit wise? those hits put players out of comission and put the fear of god in players. that is going to be sorely missed next year if it's not adressed.SpezDispenser wrote:rooneypoo wrote:

Big time dried up for me personally.

I would argue that you have to be patient on that side of it and wait for Cowen and Gryba to come into the lineup - which I would assume won't be more than a year for either - and put the $3 million into a true top pairing D-man like Michalek who can block shots like A-Train, move the puck reasonably well and dish out some hits as well.
I'd rather upgrade A-Train's spot and re-sign Cullen, then insert Cowen and Gryba, but with that said I understand your concern, we lose some snarl on the backend in the shortterm.

I think we should also consider the fact that, with all that 'big hit' power, it didn't really pan out for us in the end either way. Shot blocking, now that's something we would miss with both of them gone.
