Elliot and Lehener having proven nothing/next to nothing in the NHL yet, so turning down Lou would be a mistake.

What exactly has Luongo proved? Hell, Leighton has done more then he has now. Elliott and Luongo are about on the same level IMO, I think Luongo is an average goaltender and a playoff pushover. He's over rated by the media in a huge way and he has been pulled more then any goaltender this year. He's soft, he's mentally weak, and he cant handle playoff hockey.

The guy is on a contract until he is over 40 at over 6 mil a year, worst contract in The NHL IMO. Ill take Elliott and his 29 win at 600K every year vs Luongo and his 6 plus mil having done nothing to prove he is worth that money. Elliott is a dream goaltender for a team that is tight against the cap like The Sens.

His extension is actually 5.3 million fwiw.
And while i agree that you build a solid defence and as long as you have a decent goalie (Osgood-esque) you'll be fine. But turning down Luongo would be silly at this point. He would easily become the bes goaltender the Senators have ever had. Oh and by the way, the dude won a gold medal, i know you hate the Olympics and all but it's a huge feat.

I'm not saying Luongo is the answer to a cup, but he'd get us a heck of a lot closer than Elliott.

Will he be in a year or two? I dont think he will.

As for the Gold Medal, he almost cost Canada that medal twice, once against Slovakia the other against USA in the finals. The best goaltender Canada has is Cam Ward and if he wasnt hurt he would have been the guy in the nets. But you are right, it is a huge feat, if only he had Pronger, Keith, Seabrook, Boyle, Doughtey, and Neidamayer in front of him every night.

Oh my god why did somebody have to bring up Luongo? Ottawa Senators off-season talk - Page 16 805406

I have already voiced my opinion on him before (would love to have him on the Sens and his contract isn't terrible at all).

Ya, Luongo as a 40 year old goaltener at 5.3 mil... AWESOME. Until he actually acomplishes something in The NHL, his contract is brutal IMO. Luongo being on The Sens makes no difference and truth of the matter is Leclaire is actually the more tallented goaltender of the two. If he stays Healthy Leclaire is everything Luongo is with more athletic ability.

I would be concerned at the amazing step back Luongo seemed to have taken this year personally. Once he was mythical and scary to opposing teams, but I think the Hawks have really Diddled with him.

However, there are no teams like the Hawks in the East. If Washington had a D they might be, but they don't so they're not. Luongo would probably clean up in the East.

The more I think about it, the more I think Cullen AND Z.Michalek are coming this off-season, which would mean some changes are gonna happen.

While I'm not sure I agree, I think people might get their wishes and Kelly will be moved to make room for Cullen.

I can also see Leclaire moving, we're fine with Elliott and a Scott Clemenson style backup.

For the first time in a while I can actually buy a mini-shakeup coming.

Also, Kuba gone, Hamhuis in? Murray LOVES Hamhuis. And before anyone says that these moves are too much, these three guys you're bringing in are all quality winning players.

We need to ride Leclaire or Elliott until Lehner is ready. Next season will decide which one we keep.

That's got to be the Sens goaltending plan and they better stick to it.

They'll stick to it unfortunately. I'd much rather Hamhuis than Leclaire, but hey, what can we do.

What do you mean unfortuneately ? Odds are good either Leclaire or Elliott will prove to be a keeper next year, if not we can probably sign someone else in the interim.

Worst thing they can do is rush Lehner(unless he plays too good to ignore).

No reason not to resign both if they both have a good season and let Lehner tear up The AHL for a couple seasons.

I mean unfortunately because I think Leclaire's 4 million dollars can be spent better. I realize that Leclaire *could* be the next big thing here etc., but I like Elliott a lot and he needs the time in net to continue his improvement/development. I'd be really pleased with a guy like Clemenson in there with Elliott as the number one and Leclaire traded so we can have that cap space available to improve the D.

At this point it's hard to say who our goalie will be.

Elliott was great all year but collapsed in the playoffs, Leclaire showed amazing composure getting tossed into the playoffs the way he did. It comes down to who takes their game to the next level.

Ideally we'd need BOTH of them to be good as it's hard to tell who will be 'hot' when the playoffs come around.

You need goaltending depth and that's exactly what you have with the 3 guys in the organization right now.

We'll need to draft at least 1 goaltender in this year's draft, preferably 2, because after Lehner the depth is as dry as a a bone.

What's wrong with Elliott, Lehner (in the AHL) and Clemenson?

You dont need a goaltender this year but it all depends on what Murray is looking for in a goaltender. IMO he will be looking for a NA guy that they can be very patient with and ride him in The AHL. Drafting a Euro would be risky at the position because there is anything but a garentee that he will be in The NHL any time soon.

If there is a goaltender they like very late in the draft, then that's great, if not... tons of time to draft a guy that will suit the organizations needs.

Grubauer would be nice, don't know where he would end up being taken though, he is now 3rd amongst goalies in this draft.

You still need decent grammar to survive in the world. Same as basic math skills and such.

Punctuation is your friend.

i can but it is not really an essential skill to talk on a hockey board and i usually jot my thoughts down and flick on to other posts topics etc

Not on a hockey board no, but in life.

As long as you use punctuation in 'real life' you're set.

There you go..

Basic grammar and punctuation is a must even on message boards. Spelling mistakes are forgiven *cough N4L cough* if your content is of some value.

Paragraphs are also a must if you want people to actually read what you have typed, nobody like to read a block of text.

You can also over punctuate your post, noboday likes someone who comes on a message board to try and prove how smart they are. Basically your post should be at or around the grade six level, much like newspapers and magazines.
