Im not as high on Regin, I think he tops out as a 2nd line center on a good team. Karlsson, kid will be a star. What he does on the ice isnt anything short of amazing. A 19 year old kid controlling the play like he does with the tallent he has, just a matter of time before he is one of the leagues best.

If he was just getting shots through or guys were helping him out a ton, I would be a little more reserved but watching him play live since he played his first game on North American soil, its clear how smart he is and that's whats going to make him a star.

Agreed, Karlsson has the IT factor. I am high on Regin, mostly due to his hockey intelligence. He also looks very smooth in everything he does, I think he becomes a really solid number 2 centreman or maybe even an Andy MacDonald type number 1 guy.

im all for trying out regin as a second line center next year while we try fisher to the third.

i also agree with N4L in saying if there is a good deal out there for spezza we have to look at it. i'm especially partial to getting one done with the bluejackets or atlanta. brassard and filatov have to be coming back the other way with their 1st then we'll give them ours and spezza with lee.

it's gets a little more complicated with atlanta, i don't think we could get kane but if we could with their 1st... off and away.

the part that sticks with me the most is how much of a Wing Dang Doodle that NTC will be after july 1. spezza's had a few years now where he's been on the slide. i like how he's played in that last part of the season but it might not be enough. if a deal feels good, pull it.

as for trading with florida..., nothing there that ain't broken. so that's a no

Well looking at The East, I honestly think The Sens could be riiiiight there in terms of getting to the finals.

It will come down to 3 things next year (assuming Spezza is here).

1. Solid goaltending with Leclaire becoming a true number 1.
2. Ottawa gets another puck mover on the back end.
3. The rookies (Butler, Cowen, Wiercoich, and Gryba) along with the sophmores (Regin and Karlsson) continue to develope and contribute.

Of that happens Ottawa has a real shot because Pitts is beatable and so is Washington. Personally in The NE I dont see anyone being better then Ottawa either.

Boston had a weird one this year but no doubt they are better then what they showed. buffalo could also improve. i think it will be a tight race personally. but i believe in our youth movement and our coaching and GM. the future looks bright.

Buffalo overachieved. Big time. Boston will most likely be significantly better next year too. They'll have Hall/Seguin in the lineup and the money to sign some free agents. They'll be the toughest team to beat in the division next year.

100% agree that we could really use another 'surprise' like Regin or Karlsson - that is, someone you're not putting on the roster with a permanent marker just yet. Butler, Petersson, Hoffman - doesn't matter who, but if we can get another forward to produce immediately at such a young age, we'll be looking real pretty.

I like Butler as a huge wildcard. I loved what I saw once he shook off the nerves. He had some glorious chances, some of which he started himself, some that came from good positioning. Looking forward to what he has to bring.

And if Foligno is still here, I would imagine he'll be a lot better right off the hop.

I think Butler is 100% here next year. Murray made a lot of moves to improve the depth in Ottawa and it's going to show starting in camp.

Along with Butler, you are going to have Greening and Hoffman fighting for a spot up front, Greening will fill more of a need on the 4th line because he is basically ready. Hoffman I think plays a year or two in The AHL before making the jump.

I just dont see Foligno being here next year, at least not if Cullen is signed. If Foligno actually is Ruutu would have to be the other guy they consider moving because they are going to be close to the cap no matter what.

Like I was saying in the other thread, Campbell may very well be the guy Murray lands this off season and I would much rather have him then Kuba for a lot of reasons.

I'll pass on Campbell. 7+ million for another 6 years no thank you.

Ya, pass on a player The Sens actually need as much as if not more then most guys on the team. Campbell is exactly the player The Sens need on the point to put them over in The East.

That contract scares me, although I would expect the cap to begin rising again shortly, due to economic recovery and the inevitable moving of money losing franchises.

Maybe this wouldn't be the anchor it appears in Years 4-5-6.

Legit argument though. The Sens are already up against the cap and it would be tough to fit Campbell in. With an influx of young defenders it might make more sense to spend our money elsewhere.

In the short term though Campbell makes perfect sense. If we managed to get rid of Kuba and Cheechoo in the process it would be perfect.

Obviously Kuba would be getting dealt if Campbell does indeed come here, there is no way anyone one takes that contract without at least 4 or 5 mil going back out the door. Cheechoo isnt getting dealt though, lets not kid oursleves.

There will be a couple guys on ELC's this year, my guess Butler and one of Gryba, Cowen, or Wiercoich (all will split time) so there are some low cap hits right there. Kovalev comes off the cap the year after that and the buyouts will be done as well, that free's up close to 7 million alone so there is a ton of room.

After the season The Sens had there are moveable assets that you can get a good return on. Ruutu, Foligno, or Kuba are all guys that have value.

With The Canadian dollar at par and no signs it's going to go down anytime soon, The Canadian teams will indeed be taking in a lot more money and prop up The NHL.

Anyways, long story short, you can defently make that Campbell contract work and he would be the guy that takes the pressure off a lot of guys, namely Spezza and Karlsson for differnt reason's. Also, from the time the contract was signed there has been 14 million paid off, that's a good chunk of change.

Campbell for Cheechoo straightup, do you do it ?

If we're taking Campbell for another 6 years they better take Cheechoo for one. They can bury him if need be, that's a dealbreaker for me. We're already paying Emery to not be on our roster along with 3 coaches, I doubt we add Cheech to the mix.

I understand that Campbell is a solid player who could really help the team, but that's a disgusting contract and we better be getting incentives for taking that off their hands. One of the incentives would be getting rid of Cheechoo.

All day everyday. Deal Kuba for some decent pieces to a team like Jersey (maybe a 2nd+prospect) and you almost break even as far as sallary is concerned.

It would have to be somehting like Kuba, Cheechoo, and Lee for Campbell and a 1st or 2nd. Cheechoo's salary will not count against Ottawa's cap next year one way or another so I dont think it's all that big of a deal if he is included at all.

Taking that Campbell salary and contract is def a favour to Chicago, they would need to pay more with Campbell. That said, Campbell is probably the exact player Murray wants, not Michalek, A Train, Zanon, or whatever defensive D man people can think of. If that was truly what Murray wanted, he would have resigned A Train.
