Neely didn't say we were a 5th place team without Spezza, he said a playoff team. That allows for a few more losses really.

i think edmonton would look at Spezza and Kuba

for Penner, Cogliano and Souray.

It fits cap wise.

That first line makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Cap geek doesnt put the lines together as they would play-its based on salaries. What do you think of the players-you make up the lines

would Spezza waive his NTC to go to Edmonton?

You would think with MPS and Hall there, he may

His wife might have something to say about living in edmonton though...

His NTC doesn't kick in until this summer. We have a free pass to trade the guy before we get saddled with the next 5 years.

would Toronto take kovalev off our hands for our first round pick this year

What about Nashville? If they lose in the first round this year because they couldn't score enough goals again, do you think they'd turn to a Spezza to help push them over the top in the offense department? They seem to have a lot of young pieces they could sacrifice given the fact that they had such a competitive team this year.

You want to trade Kovalev with our first round pick in return for nothing? To Toronto? Did you even read that sentence before you posted it?

Bob Mackenize thinks Spezza is on the outs, because of exactly what everyones problem with him this series was - he was around in a winning-offensive role.

Its one of the videos on the TSN.ca right now. "Close but no cigar"

Huge praise from Panger and MacT though

7 years of excuses. I have no time for anymore.

It makes too much sense. We've talked about hundreds of times before in here. If Edmonton can add Spezza and Hall/Seguin in one offseason and bring back a healthy Hemsky, they'd give the fans some hope for change. And Spezza would be the big ticket player they haven't had since Pronger left.

Here's the thing: what would the reasonable return in an Edmonton trade be?

Blue chip prospect, + a serviceable top-6 forward (i.e., of Michalek-esque abilities and long-term prospects). Or a potential #1 D and a prospect. Minimum.

There are teams that can use his offense.

The Sens are a playoff team with or without Spezza.

the sens would not have made the playoffs this year without Spezzas contribution-the ten game win streak that got us in was due in a large part to Elliott's play, dont fool yourself.

Fixed.

Ill agree Elliott was a key factor if you agree its hard to win 10 games straight if you are relying on your goalie to score.

LOL. Did Spezza even play for half of those games during that streak?

Haha! Nope. The streak was from Jan. 12 to Feb. 6. Spezza was out with injury from Dec. 14 to Jan. 23 -- that is, he came back when we were already 5 games into the streak.

Sure, Spezza came back hot, but it wasn't like he had to pick the team up by the scruff of it's neck and carry it. Everyone knows Spezza produces when things are going well. It's what he doesn't do when things aren't going well that troubles people like me.

So much for revisionist history.

Big, big decision to be made on Spezza before that NTC kicks in July 1st, that's for sure. One of Chara/Redden-esque proportions, that determines the fate of the franchise for the next 5 years.

Let's hope we get it right this time around.

I feel bad for Bryan Murray. What a Dung show this guy inherited.
