sooooo under what scenario can we clinch a playoff spot?

Conversely, if we lose in regulation and the Thrashers lose in regulation AND the Rangers lose (regulation or OT/SO) tomorrow night... then we'll clinch tomorrow night, even though we're not playing and didn't get any points.SensGirl11 wrote:shabbs wrote:I hear ya. The Rangers and the Thrashers are the two teams that affect when the Sens clinch due to games remaining and how far back they are in points. A single point by the Sens will put our point total out of reach by both of them, thus clinching a spot. It does not matter what they do as long as we get a point as they won't be able to catch us at all.SensGirl11 wrote:Can you tell I'm chomping at the bit to get this thing locked? I just wanted to know the scenarios. I realize we need only one point, I just wanted to know if there was any other way if we ended up losing tonight, which would not be a good thing either way.
The Thrashes need to get 2 points tonight to remain a factor on our clinching of a spot. If we don't get any points tonight, and they get 2 points, then they remain a factor. If they only get 1 point, they are no longer a factor and the Rangers are the only team that become a factor, provided we don't get any points tonight.
Perfect, thanks Shabbs. That's what I was looking for.

Agreed. WIN AND IN.SpezDispenser wrote:This is getting technical. Perhaps we should just win tonight?

Good question. Let's say we win in regulation, Atlanta wins in OT and the Rags play an intra-squad game tonight for extra credit, what happens?
Or if the Atlanta game gets postponed due to rain, we lose in a shootout and Mark Messier guarantees that the Rangers run the table for their remaining games...

What if NBC doesn't want Ottawa to be in the playoffs? Then it doesn't matter if we win/lose

If that's the case, all Bettman has to do is give the refs a disrete nod at a crucial point in a series-deciding game.

Forgive my crude language, but NBC can suck it.

Disrete? Intriguing.

No, the Thrashers could lose in OT or SO.
For the record, I was being facetious when I asked. I've been looking at our magic number since it was 5.
