So, am I the only one who thinks smoked meat and pastrami are the same thing?

Hindsight is 20/20. Redden was a top 5 defenceman in the league that year.

A LOT of people didnt want Chara gone. The fact he wasnt even offered a contract by Muckler is embarassing as a Sens fan. Murray was one of those people who didnt want Chara gone just so people know.

The issue I have always had was the fact Muckler didnt even offer the guy a deal and right from the horses mouth, he was not only insulted, but it actually hurt the guy.
Then he plays here and ignorant fans boo the guy.

I think the Boston management was aware of the salary problems they would have had if they had signed Kessel long-term with Chara's contract needing to be re-upped. They'll make sure they have the $$ space to outbid anyone. He's their captain, unfortunately one franchise has already made the colossal error of letting him go -- rest assured, it won't happen again.

It's really not their choice though - unless he's willing to re-up there.
Salary would be high for a 3rd line centre, but he would be their top scoring centre man this year. Their current 2nd line centre is David Legwand with a whopping 10G 26A in 73 games.stempniaksen wrote:RobbyJ wrote:Budget teams love players with cap hits higher than the actual salary.stempniaksen wrote:RobbyJ wrote:Thing is, Nashville has one more year of Weber at 4.5M and then he may be out of their price range, I'm guessing 6.5-7M by that time. So instead they have a 4.2 million dollar 3rd line center? How is that any better for a cap team?
Agreed. But his actual salary is still too high for a budget team to be paying a 3rd line center.

Why would he want to leave though? He could continue on living in a great city, where the fans love him and he's their leader.

There's a long interview with Murray somewhere where he was saying that he and the entire coaching staff was pleading and pleading with Muckler to get it done. Murray should have gone straight to Melnyk and said, sign them both! You don't let Zdeno Chara walk, you don't do it.

I dunno, I agree with the principal of what you're saying, don't get me wrong, but in this sport specifically, anything can happen in terms of where a player goes. It's no longer unfathonable for a Bruin to sign with the Habs or a Hab to sign with the Leafs like Komisarek etc.
I think until he's signed that contract a lot of teams are gonna have the fantasy or trying to outbid each other for Big Z. And if he hits the open market...it sounds like we still hold a little bit of a piece of his heart, so who knows?
Boo hoo hoo....I still you Chara.
Legwand has had one good year in his career, whereas over the last 5 seasons Fisher has pretty much been good for 20+ goals and about 48 points. Way better than Legwand.stempniaksen wrote:RobbyJ wrote:Salary would be high for a 3rd line centre, but he would be their top scoring centre man this year. His career high is also 15 points higher than Fisher's. That's not even going into the fact that Fisher has played with better linemates this year. Still doesn't change the fact that Nashville would be shifting their money to a position that doesn't need filling since they already have Legwand there.
