Where's Z.Smith? And why must we acquire Ellis? Surely he wouldn't sign here if he's gonna be a 1A or a backup even?

Thing is, Nashville has one more year of Weber at 4.5M and then he may be out of their price range, I'm guessing 6.5-7M by that time. Nashville is a budget team not a cap team.Big Ev wrote:Nashville doesn't need Fisher, they don't need a defenseman who is a question mark, and they won't trade their franchise player. So no, I don't think they would bite.

It's great to save money and all but UFAs are hard to come by at this point. With the exception of very few players, all the franchise players are locked up with teams that drafted them. Otherwise you end up paying too much a la Campbell. We once had a franchise d-man but we let him walk for two years of Wade
Chara's only got one more year left in Boston - and who's to say if he'll stay? Markov, Kaberle, both up after next year.
Kovalfie wrote:Big Ev wrote:Hmmm, you think Chara might be willing to come back?
he did want to re-sign and i think still has property here. might have to start a gmhockey "we want chara" campaign, sway some fans to join in, and push murray's hand. you think we got that much pull here?

Chara has extremely close ties to Ottawa still, so it is a possibility.
Budget teams love players with cap hits higher than the actual salary.stempniaksen wrote:RobbyJ wrote:Thing is, Nashville has one more year of Weber at 4.5M and then he may be out of their price range, I'm guessing 6.5-7M by that time. So instead they have a 4.2 million dollar 3rd line center? How is that any better for a cap team?
N4L wrote:Yup, absolutely. I had Marc Savards gloves on this morning so, not that he needs them anymore. Although, Savard is from Ottawa too, but my buddy gets his gear through Chara.

Hindsight is 20/20. Redden was a top 5 defenceman in the league that year.
