“Eight Is Enough” is soooo ‘70s.

Ottawa (30-21-4, 2nd in the North East and 5th in the Conference) hosts Montreal 25-25-5, 3nd in the North East and 10th in the Conference) Saturday afternoon – the first game of Hockey Day in Canada. On Thursday the Sens extended their current streak to a franchise-record-tying 8 games, doing it in style by beating the current Stanley Cup champs in their own barn.

The Habs come into this game following a slightly different route. The Montreal squad is on a 2-game losing streak, and has fallen 2 spots out of a playoff position. That said, they are tied in points with the 7th seed Flyers, so a win (and some help from other teams) could find the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge Olé-ing all the way to 7th.

As well as Ottawa is playing lately, and as inconsistent as Montreal has been, this is not a gimme game. However if they continue playing The System, a new franchise record will be established around 5PM.

Young Nicholas could add some much needed size up front.

Hope we don't take them lightly. With all the injuries on their back end, inconsistencies in net and a sputtering team attitude, if we play like we've been playing lately, it's going to be a guaranteed win. Need these two points as much as any of the 2 points we've been getting lately.

Good point. That's one thing we've yet to prove. That we can exploit a depleted team that's below us in the standings. GAME DAY: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators - 2:00pm ET - Sat. Jan. 30. 2010 235689 GAME DAY: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators - 2:00pm ET - Sat. Jan. 30. 2010 805406

Agreed. The "system" seems to be working well. I felt that there was some sloppy play last night though by many players including alfredson, spezza, fisher and unsurprisingly campoli. But the first three was rather disturbing. If the sens had those types of turnovers from those players without having elliot play as well as he has last nights game could have gone differently.

Let's not forget that we came off a worse losing skid to start our current streak, so one can never underestimate a struggling team. Montreal does have the ability to turn it around quickly.

That being said the boys keep finding ways to win games convincingly. We are also getting some good bounces. Saturdays game should be a good one to watch, especially if the streak continues. I assume that Carkner will be playing (haven't read anything about the wrist injury) and that is great news. The last thing the sens need is picard coming in and ruining the party with his ability to score goals... on us!

Once again let us please beat the Habs... I would hate to lose the streak to them.

Side-by-side stats comparison added in first post and below. I think the game is a sellout. I tried a pair of tickets and "Best available" and came up with nothing. Excellent, not let's not disappoint.

Hockey Day in Canada activities:
http://senators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=515338

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators, CBC television and the National Capital Commission team up to celebrate the 10th annual Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday, Jan. 30, with a number of special events.

Senators open practice: At 11:30 a.m. this morning (note: missed that one), the Senators will practice at the Bell Sensplex, where fans are welcome to watch from the stands. After the team is put through its session, the Cumberland Jr. Grads minor bantam B team, winners of the Senators T.E.A.M. Hockey Country Hockey Day in Canada contest, will take to the ice with the Senators players. The bantam players will also receive personalized Senators jerseys.

The Jr. Grads were selected from more than 50 nominations. Although winless on the ice this season, the team of 13-year-olds made its mark off ice. They served food to the homeless during the holiday season and donated their allowances and Christmas money to a player from an opposing team in their league, who is battling cancer.

Alumni shinny game: Starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, in conjunction with the NCC, Senators alumni will play a 3-on-3 shinny game against members of the NHL alumni on the Rideau Canal Skateway Patterson Creek inlet off Queen Elizabeth Drive, between Linden Terrace and First Avenue. The Senators alumni scheduled to participate include Laurie Boschman, Jim Kyte, Jason Smith, Jason York and Shaun Van Allen. The NHL alumni squad will feature Ted Bulley (Chicago Blackhawks), John Chabot (Montreal Canadiens), Larry Skinner (Colorado Rockies), Doug Smith (Los Angeles Kings) and Rick Smith (Boston Bruins).

Both alumni teams will have honourary captains from the Canadian Armed Forces. Sergeant Rico Smith will join the Senators and Captain Mark Lachapelle will join the NHL team.

City of Ottawa shinny games: The City of Ottawa, in celebration of Hockey Day in Canada, is inviting teams, individual players and fans to play shinny games at any one of the 236 City of Ottawa-approved outdoor rinks from noon to 2 p.m. Participants are encouraged to take a photo of their experience and submit them to teamhockeycountry@ottawasenators.com. A compilation of photos from across the city will be featured in the Hockey Day in Canada photo gallery on www.OttawaSenators.com.

Senators vs. Canadiens: The Senators and the Montreal Canadiens officially launch the Hockey Night in Canada all-Canadian triple-header with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday at Scotiabank Place. Members of the Cumberland Jr. Grads will participate in the ceremonial puck drop. The remaining members of the minor bantam team will participate in the Bell Relay Race during the first intermission of the game.

Senators/NCC snow sculpture: The Senators, along with the NCC and the assistance of Cavanaugh Construction of Ottawa, have commissioned a snow sculpture to be ready in time for Hockey Day in Canada outside of Gate 1 at Scotiabank Place. Carver Guy Beauregard, from St-Jacques-Le-Majeur, Que., began work on the hockey-themed sculpture on Wednesday morning.

By the way, I made the poll so that you could select "The Price is wrong" *and* another pick.
