I dont get the Kelly bashing either (except after last night) but he has been a huge part of this team all year long and been way better then people expected or want to admit. Good like finding a defensive specialist who works your top PK unit and will get you 30-40 points every year for less then 2.1 mil.

Looking at next year's cap, it would appear to be either Kelly or Cullen but not both.

Im not sure... I dont think Cullen will sign for more then he is making right now, if you could get him under contract for 3 years, 6 mil, I would def say do it. That's a legit top 9 guy who makes any team better. Dont think it will come down to a choice.

Not sure who will get pushed out of the lineup next year because I think Smith will be ready for sure, Shannon resigned, and Regin and Foligno will sign their deals. Donovan is obviously gone so I guess Winchester would undeed be the guy that comes out.

If it came down to it though, I would rather have Kelly then Cullen for a lot of reasons. We'll see what happens though.

Except the Rangers of course. They signed him to his current deal and were so thrilled with him, they traded him into his first season there. I'd say the jury is still out on Cullen as far as re-signing with the Sens. Personally, I'd rather promote from within.

I agree but you should demote the player that deserves it, who that is? Not sure. Anyways, depth isnt a bad thing.

The Rangers are a mess, no one makes them better because they are just thrown together and always have cap issues. All I know is Cullen is a nice player who was huge during a cup run, that's not gonna hurt Ottawa now or if they resign him.

Perhaps, but I'd rather wait and see (not like there's another option). TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 58 270956

I think last night is just a write-off. For whatever reason, they were all out-of-sync.

That play against teams top forwards as well as has the ability to move up and down the lineup where needed? Colton Orr makes 1 mil a year and sees 4 mins of ice a night.

Kelly's ability to step onto any line and not look out of place cannot be understated.

Waiting and seeing is all we can do now and all I really want to do. I just hate having to talk about how the 2nd rounders are probably a fair price to pay and a risk that should be taken.

Anyways, I like what Murray did, didnt mess with chemistry or prospects.

If only he could have a little more finish ... just a bit more.

Absolutely not. People dont really understand how valuable Kelly is and in the grand scheme of things does not make a lot of cash and has 2 years left on his deal after this year, thats not long.

Good point but I'd love him to score on say 1/3 of his breakaways Smile

Save it for the playoffs I guess.

Ottawa's depth come playoff time is amazing, they have Cheechoo, Donovan, Winchester, Campoli, and probably Smith all there as the black aces. Very happy about that.

You could find somebody in the system (like Zack Smith) to kill penalties, and here are some other examples of other NHLers who are just as good offensively as Kelly (some not, but Kelly isn't here for offense either), kill penalties, and make less than he does:

Max Talbot $1,050,000
Blair Betts $700,000
David Clarkson $837,500
Max Lapierre $687,500

Just a few examples...obviously Kelly is an asset because of his PK skills, but he can be replaced while cutting salary at the same time

Two of those guys are on entry level deals except Talbot and Betts who will probably get a raise. I would take Clarkson over Kelly for sure but he will be making at least 2.1 mil when his contract expires.

Betts and Lapieree are not the same player Kelly. Those two shouldnt even be mentioned.

Kelly is about as replaceable as A Train. You might be able to find guys at a bit cheaper price to fill in their roles but will the fit into the team like these two do? I say no and just go with what works.

If there is ever a guy to come in and play where Kelly is, it's Zack Smith, but even he cant do what Kelly does right now, expierence is a huge factor here.
