I like how TSN cuts off Bryan Murray when he starts talking about Volchenkov to show Brian Burke talking. Diddling Dung

So talks are ongoing with Volchenkov, good, agree to 3.8 X 5 and be happy A-Train, you've been less than stellar recently.

Just before the Olympic break we played Washington, and he completely shut down Ovechkin, blocking a shocking 11 shots.

I agree he played abysmally yesterday, and did not have a great Olympics. But he has been solid for us for a long time. People (Not just you SD, and I do have a lot of respect for you and your opinion) need to relax, and not get pissed at Volchie because you read on hfboards that he turned this down or he wants Ovechkin like money.

PHX and WAS were awfully busy. How did Calgary have the cap space for Toskala AND Staios?

LOL the Caps made some desperate moves and are worse than they were before the Olympic break TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 55 270956

Scott Walker is done, they clearly didn't think Jurcina fit on their team in December, now they want him back? We all know how much Corvo sucks, and Eric Belanger is no more than an average 3rd line player. With garbage defence and golatending, this team is going nowhere.

After trade deadline day, I still think Pittsburgh is the team to beat in the East.

It's not just that though, there comes a time when you have to make a hard decision, sometimes it sucks. Volchenkov is nothing like Chara, if he walks it won't put this franchise back 5 years, he can be replaced. I love him as a player, he's one of my favourites, but his particular skill set isn't THAT hard to replace.

People say he's a warrior - and he definitely is - but so are 99.9% of all the guys who block shots for a living. Sutton, Seidenberg, Michalek, they all are - and if you want to stay in the league you have to be. However, when your one skill set is defending and you can't contribute offensively at all, then it forces the team to try to compensate by acquiring puck movers, when they could be setting their sites on a genuine number one D-man, something that I've felt was hindered by the signing of Kuba last year and could be ultimately put to rest if we re-sign A-Train.

Combine A-Train's cash and Kuba's cash, then go out and get a legitimate number one guy (easier said that done) with the 6 or 7 million dollars, Phillips moves down to pairing 2 with...let's say Cowen. Karlsson joins D-man1 and Carkner and say...Sutton are your 5, 6. Does it change things that much? I think it does personally. We don't remember here how awesome a number one D-man can be, but it's so much fun and so calming.

And however you slice it, A-Train is a great #4 D-man, nothing more, nothing less. And yes, I'm a little pissed he won't sign for 3.8 or 4 and move on, so we can start planning when to trade Kuba. TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 55 54934

Then there's a part of me that loves having the depth we do WITHOUT having a number one guys sucking 6 million of the cap down the hole. Maybe I should re-state myself and say that in no way is Volchenkov worth a penny more than 4 million - and I'm positive he and Grossman deep down realize this, so cut the BS and sign the diddling contract.

What if Sutton looks great and wants a 2 million dollar deal?

That's a lot for a 3rd pairing guy, but if he's worth it, I'd do it and just move Campoli at the draft.

By "look great" I mean as good as Volchenkov.
