TSNBobMcKenzie Toronto's Alex Ponikarovsky likely to fetch a second-round pick and a good prospect. L.A. one of many teams interested.

Diddle, that is such the guy we should be after!
You don't. Not without having to dump Kelly Kovalev or maybe someone else.Dash wrote:How are we going to afford Volchenkov, Foligno, Regin, etc.

A) A lot of GM's critized Burke for the $$$ he payed out to Mike K. last summer. He's basically volchenkov but he paid him like he was a Weber.
B) Zidlicky and others are going to sign for reasonable term
C) Anton did not have a great tournament and they treated him like a 5/6 dman on team Russia.

There is a few players that look quite good in that range IMO. I cannot believe that a draft in 2010 is poor on 2nd round level.
Even if they don't like the players at 50-60, they can use that to trade up or down.
I would have taken quantity over quality in forward prospects because our pool at F is disgusting. Trading 1 2nd rounder is fine for a rental, but 2, I don't think is a good idea.
Could be, but for Andy Sutton, don't think so.
I don't quite get it, just about everyone on this site was screaming for Murray to pick up a top 6 forward and another defenseman, but you didn't want to give up a roster player, and you didn't want to give up any prospects, and you didn't want to give up 2nd round picks.
Do you honestly believe that you could get a 5/6 dman at the trade deadline for a 3rd round pick or worse? Would you have been happy to go into the playoffs with Lee or Campoli instead of Sutton?

Where exactly did I say I didn't want to give up any prospects? I would give anybody not named Wiercioch or Cowen. I would even give Wiercioch if we can get a solid top 4.
A 35 year old depth rental? 3rd/4th rounders + Brian Lee/Obrien ish would have gotten my vote.

It's not like he's NOT getting guys to keep us from getting over the bump. He's gotta do what's sensible; grossly overpaying or mortgaging too much our future would be much more of a Diddle you to the fans that playing it close.
I don't think anyone here is thinking we're a cup contender this year; it's not one deal at the deadline that will change that;

I never said it did. My point is that Murray consistently trades our picks away for little more than fluff at the deadline. Why is he bothering, that's my point.
How is this move sensible? Depth? We need another defensive d-man behind Phillips, Volchenkov and Carkner? No. We could have used a PMD tenfold more.
