All I know is he turned down the 4 x 4 deal. I don't know what or even if they countered for an amount if he signs for 4 years. I did hear that 4 million would work if they sign him to at least 6 years, but the sens want no part of that.

They can't meet in the middle and do 5 years, 20 million?

How is that meeting in the middle. That would be BM giving in, pure and simple.

Why? Murray wants 4 X 4, Volchenkov wants 4 X 6, so they compromise in the middle and do 4 X 5.

If you're ottawa why do you want to commit to more than 4 years for a guy who likely will have his skill deplete drastically by year 4. He doesn't score, he doesn't move the puck really well, he can't lead the rush...

So you're paying a guy 4 mill for 5 years to block shots and hit? Really...With Cowen, Wiercoch coming in the next year or two and Ben Blood progressing very well I wouldn't do that..

You could pick a guy up in the offseason to replace him and only pay 3 mill at most for 3 or 4 years.

Ryan Jones is an asset to any organization. cheap, serviceable, character, hussle, the list goes on and on. This tiny move is a must imo.

Fair enough, goodness knows Bingo could use all the help they can get.

That's why you dont give him a NTC. A guy like A Train wont be hard to move at a decent salary if he doesnt have a NTC. If you give him 6 years, the first 3 having a NTC that gives a couple guys time to develope and gives The Sens options going forward. Just because you have depth it doesnt mean that you can just trade guys away like it's a sure thing the guys coming in will be dominate.

All that said, A Train for 6 years at about 3.75 isnt an awful deal but Murray has to show loyalty as well. Blood will defently need 2 or 3 years in The AHL for sure before he gets a call to The NHL and Wiercoich will need a year or two as well. Cowen could be ready but will more likely spend a year in The AHL first.

Again, fair enough, but I'm trying to figure out is these are the reasons behind not giving him the term or if it's simple a hard-lined stance, or is it that he wants 5. Or does he want 5 X 4 or 4 X 6?

I wouldn't count on Cowen or anyone else to replace Volchenkov. Cowen brings his own skill set, but it'll take time for him to develop. Wiercioch is amazing, but he's a Kuba replacement.

If we get someone for 3 or 3.5, I think that 500K is worth spending on A-Train with the chemistry he has with Phillips and the team in general. I wouldn't not sign him because he wants 5 years, I would do that right away.

Yeah, the NTC would have to be lifted after 3 years.

There is no way a player like A Train should get anything but a limited NTC for 1/2 his contract.

There we go, two nerds have figured out how to retain A-Train, Murray's not far behind. I expect an announcement soon (ish).

The asking price was a 1st and a scoring forward? I wonder if that's what they gave up.

Neely thought Gagne - which would be an excellent trade IMO - for Nashville.

Slow down. You're starting to make mistakes.

I used to work with a guy who lived next door. Wait, do you work at Alcatel?
