Last I heard the new owner paid less for the Lightning so that Vinny could stay on their team and payroll.

There hasn't been any indication of trading Vinny, much less to Ottawa. And it'd be Spezza going the other way (for starters).

Not necessarily. If the new owner comes in and wants the payroll down a bit, he might insist on smaller, good players coming back.

They don't come any smaller, or cheaper, than Del Shannon. Sarcasm
haha your right about that

Vinny to Ottawa? TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 33 62136

I think our best shot at getting a big name forward is Ray Whitney. On defence, its gonna be Kubina. Though I'm secretly hoping its Visnovksy TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 33 128942

Obviously, Bryan Murray disagrees if he's making pitches for the likes of Kovalchuk.

Well he does.

To my understanding, the new owner was convinced of how important Vinny is to the team and the city that the deal was that he paid less for the team to keep him there.

Vinny also supposedly likes TB and will not waive his NTC.

Sounds very unlikely that Vinny will be going anywhere.

Firstly the Ottawa Senators are 100% in for Vinny Lecavalier. It sounds like the bargaining chips Senators would be sending Volchenkov/Cheechoo/Lee/1st Round/2nd Round.

I am reluctant to give up our 1st. Atrain carries a lot of value in a deal. We would also be in the same boat as last year with too much money tied up in the front after all was said and done. Its a shame that Vinny's contract wasn't 2m less. TB is also in 8th spot and 1 pt behind 6th. I doubt they move Vinny until the off season.

He was a pending UFA, and now he's gone. With Vinny's contract, how can the sens fit that unless they go on somewhat of a firesale? Whitney is the likeliest big name.

So Koules said "OK buddy, I'll take a few million less so YOU can keep Vinny?". Generous.

With Volchenkov and Cheechoo gone, it solves that problem for next year at least. Then your Centers are Lecavalier, Spezza, Fisher, Kelly... What do you think happens next?

It's actually pretty easy to fit Lecavalier in.

That's what I heard and Buttman handled the sale so who knows how that works, the team didn't sell for a whole lot ....

Even so, Vinny has an NTC and doesn't want to leave TB so trading him isn't as easy as internet rumourmongers make it sound.

Can't see too many teams taking on such a contract, especially Ottawa.

I wonder if Eugene will ever take on a big long term contract with an NTC ever again, unless we sign the player to it with a "Dany Heatley clause" included.

ie.
Request a trade your NTC is forfeit.

How did the exact same thing work out for Danny Boyle?

If that particular trade scenario takes place, then yes. But we all know that ain't gonna happen, right? TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 33 159628

If we did get Lecavalier, imagine the reaction in Montreal.

Completely worth overpaying for Lecavalier for that reason alone. Ahhhhh! Ahhhhh!

That makes me mad to this day. Oh no, we can't pay Boyle that kind of money into his late thirties. No sir.

What would it have cost us? Mezaros and a 2nd rounder - maybe even Mez straight up. Did you like what you saw from Karlsson so far? Well this is Karlsson 8 years from now and he could have been ours.

Just because it worked for Boyle don't necessarily mean it'll work for Vinny.

I also think it'd be a mistake to commit that much money for 2 centers when we're weaker on the wing. You want be like the Penguins ? 2 top centres and no wingers ?

Fish is awesome as #2 centre so unless we move Spezza it makes no sense to pay that much for a #2 centre ... even so why take on a MORE expensive older centre. We're better off making a run at Kovalchuk on July 1st, have Spezza playing with an elite sniper again.

And I don't see Eugene taking on such a contract after what happened this summer. Let's not forget he signs the paycheques.
