Uh...that's going a little far IMHO.

I agree with him.

Well, you see, IQ is calculated relative to age, so if a 19-year-old got the same score as a 37-year-old he'd be off the charts above him.

If Hockey-IQ is calculated in a similar way (not age, of course, but years of experience at an elite level).

Really? People think Karlsson's hockey IQ is on par or higher than Daniel Alfredsson's?

On par.

But I don't consider IQ and Experience the same. Philips has the experience, that makes him a great defenseman.
Here's an example: Karlsson drives 2 players at him, then makes a blind pass because he know there won't be 3 MTL players in our zone when he's the last defenseman.

Really? Why? The kid is 19 years old and understands the game at a higher level than almost anyone on this roster. How is that going a little far?

His hockey IQ is off the charts for sure, but at the same time, he doesn't have the 15 years experience that Alfredsson has, the ability to read certain plays at the NHL level and react ahead of time, the knowledge of where to go to dodge a hit. Everything that Karlsson has - plus tidbits of knowledge picked up from playing at the highest level in the world for 15 years.

My question would be, will Karlsson ever have the hockey IQ of Alfredsson? It looks like he might - and that would make him the most killer D-man in a few years.

I think you're a little off on that. Karlsson's making an impact as a 19 year old with that stature just based purely on smarts. No way to say otherwise.

There is nothing but insanely high hockey IQ involved when you're a 19 year old defenseman going in to retrieve the puck in the corner against who guy who has 5+ years experience on you, 4-5 inches and 60+ pounds and you come out with it.

That's something you can't teach. You either know it or you don't. His positioning. His heads up plays on the rush. Carrying the puck with speed through the neutral zone. This kid's smarts are off the scales on the ice.

Just look at his English. This is his first year living in North America, no? And his English is practically perfect. The kid is insanely smart, through and through.

Out of curiosity, does Elliott get another NHL star of the week? I think he actually improved his stats this week from last.

81 saves on 84 shots, 3 wins, 1 SO, .967 sv%, 1.00 GAA

He's been a rock for this team. Not enough good things can be said about Elliott and the way he's playing right now. Just Diddling crazy! Loony

It's possible, I don't see any player that really stood out this week. Unless the Sedins rape Toronto tonight, which is 90% possible.

No, I think you're right. He followed up the star-of-the-week with a shutout, then he held the Crosby/Malkin to a single goal, and now this. If not for the refs he would have even more ridiculous stats. The only thing that could derail him is that he only had 3 starts. Did anyone have 4 starts this week?

Man that last faceoff so saved our asses, and that pass by Karlsson kicked theirs.
Clouston looks like a genius everynight. Fisher is probably Selke candidate at this point.
OT, that guy is the best player on the ice.

Now, WTF was Spezza thinking on that last penalty? GAME DAY: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators - 2:00pm ET - Sat. Jan. 30. 2010 - Page 16 Icon_scratch

Neely's whole point is that scoring isn't everything, and that people who think Spezza is "elite" and "essential to this team" spend too much time reading stats and not enough time watching games.

Try again. GAME DAY: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators - 2:00pm ET - Sat. Jan. 30. 2010 - Page 16 54934

Really? So why is he fast to point out that Kelly has more goals than Spezza?

He very rarely points out the good things Spezza does in a game, but jumps all over his mistakes. He has personal issues with Spezza I am sure of it.

He wanted to get the stick out of the shooting lane. What he should have done, though us skate through it and "accidentally" kicked it away. What he did was too obvious.

But that game should have been over on a penalty shot.

There's some truth to it. I pointed out to him the other day during a game, that he had Spezza under a microscope like noone else. Sure, Spezza is the highest paid player, but the amount of scrutiny he receives from N4L is way over the top. And N4L practically agreed.

No matter what though, despite winning a few converts over like the good Dr., he will never convince most people here that Spezza is as bad as he says he is, because, like you said, it almost seems personal.
