We don't want him to. I wonder what's being bantered around? 4 million? If so, I'd probably do it, but not for much more than that.
I'm probably in the small minority that doesn't think Volchenkov is worth that much. You just can't pay that much money for a guy who only brings one facet of the game to the table...you just can't. It's cap suicide. I'd honestly rather move Volchenkov for a couple of nice pieces at the deadline as he's exactly the kind of player (style-wise and money) that contending teams are going to be lining up for.

Then again I never thought this team would beat the Bruins with Thomas in net

Phaneuf has more value than Volchenkov, for his
offensive game alone. He can also lay big open ice hits. I wouldn't
compare them. If Volchie's agent uses Phaneuf as a comparaison for a
raise, I hope he doesn'T compare their career points.
True they're not really the same kind of D-man (although I think Phaneuf is overrated somewhat).
Even so I expect A-train and his agent to be asking for more than they deserve. He's going to want a lot and he'll want a long-term contract, knowing his value will be going downhill in the years to come, as his physical style of play starts to take its toll.

I'd love for the Sens to make it seven in a row but the streak will end some time right?
They have this Brodeur guy in nets...he's been tearing it up lately....haven't really heard much about him....hope we can beat him.

I won't give VOlchenkov more than 3.5, even for 3 years.
When asked by Doug McLean if the offensive part of a defenseman's game is important in these days, then Murray answered: "Absolutely, and we have some options with the young guys coming next year. We would love to sign VOlchie but the cap will h ave to fit our needs..."
Sounds pretty clear to me that he will not try hard if the agent will ask a lot...

For a cap hit difference of 500K (3.5 million vs 4 million) and one year on the term (3 years vs 4), you'd let one of the best all-time D-men to ever play in Ottawa walk for nothing? If you're concerned about his health later in the deal, then don't give him a NTC and trade him a little later - that's if it ever came to that, which I don't think it would. Re-sign A-Train! I want him to bolster our top 4 - he's the guy who you pair with Karlsson, or Cowen, or Wiercioch - or even back with Phillips if you can keep him. If down the road Wiercioch or Cowen are pushing for Volchenkov's to the degree that you need to make a deal, then you do it at that time. Right now, this team needs A-Train going forward and while Wiercioch and maybe even Cowen take another year or two to develop.

How about: Seven's Heaven? Not Seventh Heaven, and with a question mark at the end (because if we get to seven, then eight's great, and nine would be divine).
wprager wrote:The last time the Sens had a streak longer than 6 they beat Boston on the road in a shoot out. After enjoying (?) six power play advantages and firing nothing but blanks, Antoine Vermette scored a shortie in the third to tie it; he then scored a shoot out goal to win it (Vermette and Alfredsson scored on the Sens' first two attempts while Gerber stopped the first two Boston shooters).
That was under Paddock, so, hopefully, going 0-6 on the PP and scoring short-handed in the third is not Clouston's plan for tonight. If we get six PP opportunities we better bury a couple of them.
GO SENS GO!!!
