The only thing that comes to mind is that the g wasn't capitalized in his name.

Is Jim O'Brien the real deal right now? 6 goals, plus 6 on the year. Is he our Ruutu replacement for next year?

Way too early to tell but I'm very hopeful.

He'll need at least this season and next before we can definitively say anything about whether he'll succeed in the NHL or not.

CockRoche wrote:Really? I think you are kidding, but what are your expectations from him? Looking into the future 5 years, what do you see?

Solid #5-6 d-man who's physical and defensively sound and very capable of filling in in the top 4 whenever needed. He's got a cannon of a shot too, so it doesn't hurt if he can hone that skill a little more with his decent outlet pass. Again, alot of ppl may have expected him to be 'ready' this season but that's obviously just jumping the gun. That being said, I wouldn't not hold any expectations (as you do) for him. He's a young guy who's only had an NCAA career (I believe he was captain of Boston U) and was one of the hardest working senators at the rookie camp. sooo why shouldn't I have expectations? This is where u finally respond to me.

EDIT: oh and he can drop the gloves too. At worst, he's a Matt Carkner replacement in the next 3 years (who's much younger and hopefully more agile)

Agreed. And the ceiling for him is a third line center/Mike Fisher replacement. I just hope he can keep this going, would be quite refreshing since many thought he was going to be a bust.

I'm hoping O'Brien does well enough to earn a call up and shows some signs of life in the NHL. I'm also hopeful he continues to excel in Bingo and pushes for a spot next NHL camp. I'm not saying he gets one I'm just hoping he's in the running at least.

At the worst, I expect him to challenge Winchester for the 4th line center job if he can keep playing well. By all accounts, he's challenged himself to train much better for this upcoming season, so I'd only expect him to be more inspired next training camp.

The nice thing with him is that we can give him the proper amount of time to mature and develop offensively because the expectations for him aren't as high as say for a Bobby Butler who many think should find his way in the top 6 at some point because of his natural scoring ability.

Getting more comfortable in the jump from the NCAA to the pros - people say he's putting too much pressure on himself and isn't sticking to his game, although that's being slowly fixed. He'll need another year or two in the AHL unless he starts putting it together quicker.

SpezzD, u talkin' about Gryba? I read from some posters in bingo that Gryba was starting to be a little more physical. What have you or anyone else heard on Weircioch? I only see one goal for him and a team worst -6. Yikes...I know its only stats but I expected better of him considering he was the last cut in training camp. Hope he can start improving as bingo seems to be on the upswing

oh and Mike Brodeur has been recalled from Elmira back to Bingo. Where does that leave Barry Brust?

I guess so....sucks for Brust if that's the case, he's been awesome for the B-sens.

Who would you send down in his place right? Lehner is there to develop and despite letting in 5 last game he was quite good, especially in the first period only allowing 1 goal in 16 shots. Mike Brodeur is the number 1 goalie until Lehner proves otherwise. I think Brust knew the situation going in and was probably prepared to be in Elmira most of the season.

I'd be okay with that. It'd be interesting to see where people fit in next year. We'll have a lot of vacancies but a lot of money too.

Yeah, that's Gryba I was talking about. Wiercioch seems to be really struggling.
