OK, so do you think Murray can get immediate value for Ruutu?

Or is he looking at prospects or picks for Sharkko, Schubie and CK?

BTW hasn't Chris Neil been mentioned as one of the vets 'on the bubble'?

Neil, nah, not after getting that contract. Neil's job is safe for sure. At this point I would take Neil at 2 mil vs Kelly at 2.1.

I think it's pretty obvious who is on the bubble and who isnt.

Ruutu can be serviceable to effective in the regular season and a game changer in the playoffs. For 1.3 million, you don't trade that guy.

I noticed an article in the Citizen mention Neil as a possible candidate to be shipped out but it doesn't make much sense to me. Who will be left to drop the gloves if Neil gets shipped out? Yablonski can't take a regular shift in the NHL and even if Carkner gets called up here and there over the season and/or is the 7th d-man you can't expect him to do it in his first year. I don't think Neil is a likely candidate.

The citizen is Dung. BooBoo gets on everyone nerves but the guy knows whats going on for the most part. Neil has been solid and doing his job well so far.

Kelly, Ruutu, Donovan, Picard and more then obviously Schubert are probbly the guys. Ruutu is the last guy I let go there with Picard.

I think the organization just want to try and fool fans into thinking that they have bigger expectations from Neil to justify his contract a little. I'm sure they are satisfied if he hits, drops the gloves and doesn't take bad penalties.

Obvious to N4L of course...

SensGirl11 wrote:Some other tidbits from the Citizen;

“The way Peter has played the last two games, playing with Mike Fisher, he’s turned Mike into a scoring machine,” Murray said. Fisher has four goals in the past two games.

“(Regin’s) fast, he’s creative, he gets back and helps out defensively, and there’s no question he’s ready to play in the NHL.”

The general manager had similar things to say about Karlsson, a blue-chipper and potential quarterback with the man advantage.

“Erik we know is a very talented young man,” Murray said, adding he’d still like to see the 19-year-old make some adjustments on the power play. “Beyond that, he has really come in and played well and – not unexpected, mind you – but certainly (he is) a guy with very strong possibilities, I would say, to make the team.”

So the question becomes: What to do with the guys who are already here?

Murray wasn't naming names, but the most obvious candidates are veterans or mid-career players with one-way contracts who aren’t contributing as much. They include defenceman Alexandre Picard ($800,000 cap hit), utility man Christoph Schubert ($883,000), and forwards like Chris Kelly ($2.15 million) and Jarkko Ruutu ($1.3 million).

Hmmm...I haven't heard that one yet.

Ruutu has a skill set that no one else really does on The Sens so I dont see why they would deal him. An o.k cap hit as well.

Yeah, there's no way I would move him. Good cap hit, brings an element to the team that we need.

I don't think so. I think Murray is willing to admit that, while Kelly is a great leader and a good hockey player, he's about 800K overpaid - and that makes him expendable. Problem is finding a partner willing to take him - it should have been the Sharks to be honest. We haven't had depth in Ottawa for years and years, this is all shocking to everyone involved that we actually might have young NHLers who need a spot - and in Regin's case are pounding the door down.

Kelly doesn't need a fire lit, he's fine. Picard better stop the Jeckyl and Hyde act he's pulling this pre-season or he'll be gone. Neil is safe as safe can be, what a silly thing to put in that article.

Schubert's days here are literally numbered at 3 or 4. 5 days tops.

Exactly, and he can be a difference maker in the shootout as well.

Assuming you can trade Ruutu, who else can you get value for, and what, and who goes to waivers?

PS don't tell us you've forgiven BooBoo...

Why would we get rid of Ruutu? Did we suddenly become so flush with forward prospects that we need to dump all of the bottom 6?

No, not at all. It was just a name that James Gordon added to the article. Why? I have no idea. Not gonna happen.

Define value? Do you mean a team that will be kind enough to give us a 6th round pick for Kelly? Maybe 1 team, possibly 2. I wouldn't go near him personally, but hey, that's just me.

Picard might get you a 5th at this point. Maybe. Both of them together? Impossible. No one's taking 3+ million back right now.

Ruutu's got value - like 3rd round pick or 4th round value, or a D-man making the same coin.

Schubert's done. The time to trade him was last deadline. It's over now, waiving's the only option.

Campoli I wouldn't trade, but he'd have some value. Not much, but some.

Ruutu is one of those players that at the end of the year, you look back at shootout points won and lost. He could be a huge difference maker for those extra points. He's really not someone you want to get rid of, and that's one of the reasons why.

Jimmy Gordon is at the bottom of the pecking order at the $hitizen. That's all you need to know.

Is that the same tool who suggested Chris Neil was in hot water?
