Regin, Foligno, Winchester, Lee, Picard and Campoli are all RFA's after this season.

Hmmm...

Dash wrote:I had been suggesting all along a guy like Regin could step in to a 3rd/4th line role and do that job as effectively. Players have been taught all along to play defense, and any player that is trying to prove himself will do whatever it takes to earn that spot and if that means blocking shots, winning crucial faceoffs, so be it.
N4L wrote:Regin still cant step in and do Kelly's job right now, he doesnt have the expierence to. He will for sure one day and be able to put up way better numbers as well, but you cant get him that expierence without putting him in Ottawa. That's the issue.
Saying Regin is going to step right into Kelly's role and be just as good off the bat is wrong. His numbers will be better but that's about it for the first year or so.

Kelly's job and/or role was to ride the coat-tails of Vermette. There, I said it.
Regin is performing miracles right now the likes of which have not been seen since Jeebus turned water into wine.

I am sure that losing him or trading him because you think a prospect can do the same job, will not get the same results this season. Are you guys trying for this season or looking further ahead at future seasons and cap issues?

Future cap issues, the emergence of young players, the abundance of capable PKers on the team are all conspiring against Kelly right now.

not to mention his lack of effectiveness, it's do or die time for Kelly and I haven't seen much "do"
