my habs are garbage under gainey

He made an error not making sure the Rangers took back considerable salary in the Gomez deal IMO. Should have been Higgins, Hamrlik for Gomez, Girardi - something like that where the sting of the Gomez contract is levied a bit.

Gomez is a fantastic player - IMO - he'll really surprised you, speed, great passer, can snipe when he decides to shoot. I already really like what I'm seeing from Gionta as well. Everyone knew he was good, but he had fallen off like Cheechoo had (maybe not as bad), but he's got one thing Cheechoo doesn't have: blazing speed. I'm not a fan of the Habs, but I'm interested to see how Gomez and Gionta click in the first 5 games of the year - which are on the road I believe and very important for the Habs season. Cammelleri is pretty close to elite as well - let's say Gainey gave up Kovalev to sign Camm (he did, don't let him fool anyone), that's a pretty fair trade off IMO. Camm is younger and should be able to score more than Kovalev, but obviously Kovalev brings other things to the table.

Plekanec has the 2nd line center will be where the Habs fail or succeed - and the supporting cast of forwards for that matter. Spacek is a replacement for Schneider, Mara and Gill replace Komisarek (maybe).

Price had better be sharp - and if not, Halak will take over the team's G.

Barely in the playoffs? Or barely out? Shouldn't be any grey area for the Habs this season - I'm intrigued.

I'm not one of N4L's pawns so my opinions are not as important as his.

I'm just wondering if someone had said two years ago kovalev and cheechoo would be on this team, how many "authorities" would have laughed.

Anyways, back to hockey.......

plekanac could be traded for a bag of pucks as far as I am concerned

AK and SK are brutal

I good trade would be Gainey for BM--i have to go another year with gainey being GM--i hope they 0-10 so he gets removed--i had it with him

Really? AK is brutal? Plekanec can rebound, can't he? If all that is true, there's trouble in Montreal, but how much of that is just frustration right now?

I wouldn't sit here and defend Gomez, but he's quite good. If there had been a 5 million dollar contract and no McDonagh(sp) going to the Rangers, I'd even call it a decent trade.

Meh...every team has done it. We let diddling Chara walk. Frustrated1

So, you have no faith in the Habs whatsoever? No faith in Gomez, Gionta, Cammelleri, Markov etc?

no i don't have faith in gainey--markov is one of the best defencemen in the league--all gainey did was lateral moves--he got these 3 players and let go of koivu/tanguay/kovalev--

bottom line is i don't like he's style or philosophy--its not to say i'm right and he is wrong or vice versa--i like in your face crash and bang hockey combined with talent--brian burke or BM hockey--gainey teams would do great in a european league--look at his overall record as the habs gm--when the habs won the conference at the deadline rather than gamble and go for the cup he trade huet and throws price to the wolves--thats why carbeaneau got fired --he knew price was not ready and he rapped off at gainey for that--its always an excuse for gainey--talk about a guy that has 9 lives--any other GM would have been fired in montreal

All fair points. The new players can definitely be viewed as lateral moves - and the Huet trade was ridiculous. We'll see if the new guys can bring something refreshing and exciting for the Habs, or I guarantee Gainey's gone by January.

I don't think so. He's Michalek, but further behind in his development (and somewhat smaller).

He's accumulated some pretty nice highlights thus far.

He is referring to me. It's been an ongoing thing. If most people disagee with a comment someone else makes, they politely write a counter argument. If N4L disagrees, you get insulted, ridiculed, and then told the "facts" according to him. It's just something we all live with. He really is a good contributer and I like to read his comments, I just wish he could treat the rest of us with some respect.....
