Looks like it will be another day or two before the cuts are finalized...

More time for Murray to do something to free space?

Seems like he's just stalling until he absolutely has to make the final decision. It sounds like he really doesn't want to send anyone down to Bingo unless he's forced into it.

Maybe he likes Carkner more than I thought? I would be surprised if Z. Smith isn't sent down. Maybe he's still crossing his fingers that he can trade Schubert rather than waive him?

As it stands now they need to cut 3 and for me they seem pretty obvious. Z. Smith, Lee and Schubert. Maybe it's not that obvious and that is why Murray is holding off?

I haven't seen anyone clear the front of the net like Carkner did against Boston in quite awhile for Ottawa.

I can't imagine it being anyone else...

I think this has a lot more to do with the team building weekend they just had. I expected this actually. It would be pretty harsh to build the team and then kick someone out immediately after. Whoever gets the boot will have some serious psychological issues if they are ever expected to come back and be part of the team Sens holding off on roster cuts 42360

I assume the "26" they have now are:

Forwards:
========
Jason Spezza
Alexei Kovalev
Daniel Alfredsson
Milan Michalek
Mike Fisher
Jonathan Cheechoo
Chris Kelly
Chris Neil
Jarkko Ruutu
Nick Foligno
Shean Donovan
Peter Regin
Ryan Shannon
Jesse Winchester
Zach Smith
Total: 15

Defense:
=======
Filip Kuba
Chris Phillips
Anton Volchenkov
Brian Lee
Christoph Schubert
Alexandre Picard
Chris Campoli
Erik Karlsson
Matt Carkner
Total: 9

Goalies:
======
Leclaire
Elliott
Total: 2

Total: 26

Winchester is still injured, so they really only have to cut 2 at most to get down to the 23 max.

The guys likely to be cut must have a pretty good idea who they are right? I do see where you're coming from though. The timing would be kinda crappy. Why not just hang onto them until you absolutely have to make the cuts I guess. By then you've either made enough room on the roster (Through trades) to keep guys you would have cut earlier or you simply say it's a numbers game and we had to trim at least 3 guys no offense but you're close and we'll be calling you up when we get the chance.

If that's the case then it's Z. Smith and Lee or Schubert depending on whether Murray truly believes he can still get something for Schubert instead of just waiving him.

Also Schubert is listed as a depth Forward by the Sens I think. They say 16 forwards and 8 D.

Indeed.

Meh. Six of one... half dozen of another.

No they still have to cut at least 3. It only matters that he's injured if he's on the LTIR which I promise he is not.

Smith and Lee to Bingo. Schubert on waivers. We've known it, management has known it, and all the players have known it for over a week now.

Gotta suck for Lee, but man does he suck. SO many bad decisions in that Bruins game. Never again from high school, Sens management...never again!

Yeah, I guess Winch doesn't qualify for LTIR (10 games / 24 days) so he'll be on the "active roster".

Smith, Lee and Shubert seem to be the inevitable ones on the outside looking in. I guess what remains to be seen is do we waive Schubert or can we get something for him.

If it is as simple as Lee, Schubert, Z. Smith then why wait? I suspect Murray is still trying to make room in order to keep Carkner. Also a 23 man roster is still one or two more then Murray has said he'd like to carry. If no trades are made and Lee, Z. Smith and Schubert are cut then Carkner is likely going to be sent down too I think.

My only guess for waiting is that Murray is trying to get something done with Schubert in order to avoid waiving him.

Murray has gone on record saying he wants a 21 man roster, Clouston has said he wants a 22-man roster. That's cutting either 5 or 4 guys... so it could go beyond just Z. Smith, Lee and Schubie. Then we're into Carkner + territory for sure.

I have a funny feeling that Regin won't stick with the roster and so we'll go into the season with 23 (including Winch), then when Winchester is back Regin will have slid enough that he gets sent down. I hope I'm wrong but I just get this sense that he's going to need more time in Bingo before he sticks with the team.

I could see him being called up later in the season and at that point forcing Murray to keep him on the roster.

Am I the only one who is thinking this?

Your guess is as good as anyones Cap'n, but I must say I was impressed with Regin's combativeness. I think that factor should put him over the top in terms of sticking with the big club.

Regin is here for sure.
