Was at the game tonight.

Sens overall looked great.
I was amazed with what Kovalev can do. I think Regin's performance these past two games jumps him ahead of Smith. Will likely push Kelly for third line duties. Extremely unimpressed with Cheechoo. He did zero in tonight's game. Let's hope Michalek can score 35-40 and make up for the trade. Karlsson also continues to impress me. This guy is fantastic. Fisher on the wing looked strong and as if he was playing pressure free.

I pretty much agree with everything u said. I just hope that Cheechoo is still getting over the acclimation issues.

Karlsson looks like a lock to make the team, and Regin is making a strong case to consider moving a player to make room for him. Fisher is showing the signs of a break out season, as long as he can do what he's doing now in the regular season.

Caulkner haslooked incredible in his role so far. He's exactly what the Sen's blue line is lacking. I'd much rather him than Schubert crowding the roster at this point.

We can't give Schubert away though it seems. Waive him?

I think Karlsson is a pretty good bet to be in Ottawa this year based on performance so far, but you could argue that the level of talent he's faced so far isn't as good as what he'll see come Oct and beyond. I still think he's held his own though. I also think we need to keep him around, since having him and Cowen start their ELC at the same time could pose a cap issue in 3 years. The ELCs really should be staggered imo.

If Carkner can be the big bruiser Murray wants then great, since he's already here and wouldn't cost us an asset. Failing that, I agree with the poster who mentioned Shane O'Brien as an option. If he could be had for relatively cheap, I'd persue him for sure.

yeah I was a little confused when N4L was saying that Hoffman would be tearing up the AHL this season. I look forward to having him in Bingo soon, though. Good first showing for a 5th rounder!

I didnt think he was eligable to play in The Q this year... oh well, he will tear that league up in a big way for sure. My ignorance is unacceptable.

I don't think it has anything to do with Cheechoo being acclimatized. Offensively he sat at Montreal's blueline waiting for a stretch pass. He wasn't moving, barely touched the puck at all too. I'm not sure what it is, but maybe he's not buying into Clouston's system? Media-wise he sounds adament in reganing his old form, but actions speak a lot louder than words..

Also what disappointed me was no one coming to Kovalev's defence after he got hit hard along the boards. When you're new to a team, especially being someone of Kovalev's skill level, you come to their defence no matter how clean or dirty the hit was. In watching part of the Leafs vs Fylers game last night, Ottawa will be in real tough physically this year. Cant remember if they tried this or not last year, but I'd like to see Carkner play a couple shifs as a winger. We need someone on the team who is not afraid to drop the gloves. Having a d-man be your fighter kind of worries me. That being said, you don't pay a player $2 million per (Neil) to fight (I'm really against the Neil signing), Ruutu isn't a fighter, nor are Phillips and Volchenkov. Who does that leave on this team?

Cheechoo really has a long way to go to prove he can still play Imo. He hasn't looked very good at all.

Kovalev has been dancing, but he's playing with the puck like he's in practice. If he does that when the games count, he's going to piss me off big time. I'm not against the signing and I never have been, but I could see myself turning on this guy really quickly. Its the pre-season, so I'll assume he's just trying to put on a show, but if he's that lackadaisical in the regular season, I won't be happy. And I know noone else is talking about this right now. I'm sure I'm pretty much alone on this, but w/e..he'd better shape up when the games start to count.

As for toughness, our team actually has tons of toughness. It may not be the fighting toughness some other teams have, but its quite similar to the toughness of the Wings. Maybe we aren't as skilled or w/e but this team is plenty tough.

I like the Neil signing personally. I'm not saying he isnt over paid because he is, but if Neil can pop 8-10 goals and play the 4th line role he is there for, then I think people will change their tune a bit about the signing.

Carkner will probably fill in where he's needed kind of thing. I dont think Carkner HAS TO be a a fighter from what Ive seen so far. What people have over looked thus far is the guy is playing 18-20 mins a night on that blueline and doing a good job. He can obviously work the PK and is decent even strength. If he keeps things simple he can be the number 6 dman IMO.

What? Is he ineligible for the AHL or something? What's he going to learn in the Q? He had 52 goals in 62 games there last season.

EDIT: Not to mention 21 playoff goals in 19 playoff games.

As far as I understand, if he has junior eligibility, he cannot got to the AHL. He must go back to his CHL club.

You're right there, but last night was certainly closer to that level of talent than the previous games. The Habs had their top-4 forwards playing.

The real question is can he push Campoli or Picard out of the lineup?

If given a choice between Campoli and Picard, its Picard in a runaway Imo. But if given the choice between Campoli and Carkner, I'm split right down the middle---never been a fan of Campoli, didn't support the trade, and Carkner hasn't done enough to prove he deserves to push anyone off the roster. (He has looked good, though.)

Hmm. Odd rule. I thought it was just a matter of age. O'Brien must be junior eligible but he's playing in Bingo, right?

Pretty sure it's an age thing also, but I could be 100% wrong.

I dont think it's a matter of pushing anyone off the roster right now, but keeping him up in Ottawa for 500K as the 7th Dman isnt a bad thing. I would be willing to bet from what I've seen, he works his way into that lineup. He fills a need that no one else can really fill and that's a cheap, bang-em-up D man who can take a regular shift.

O'Brien wasn't drafted last year. Thats what matters. You cannot take a freshly drafted NA player that is still eligible for the CHL and play him in the AHL. Thats the basics of the rule.
